Just cracked open a bottle of Tondena (made by San Miguel in Philippines; bought it at Homeplus); my initial impression is that it is not bad.....

Tanduay is the preferred swill of the locals in the PI. I've "fed the fish" as the locals say many times because of that stuff.

I saw another one at Homeplus last night: Tesco Lotus White Rum (about 6,000 won for a liter). Anyone tried it?

cheap rum evokes those "wish i hadn't" moments.

if you must there really isn't much better than bacardi 151. bang for your buck, you don't taste any of the "this rum was made with sewer water and sugar cane from north korea" taste because you just get burn. the burn blessed from the alcohol deities letting you know that you are loved and that ultimately your liver is theirs.

now good rums, those can be heavenly. in my opinion the darker the alcohol the more that of an extreme can exist between the tastes and qualities between good and bad examples. this applies for rums and whiskeys.

The problem with drinking rum is it makes people around me violent and obnoxious. Of course one must defend oneself.

It's been a long time since I've had any, but Tondena was pretty decent. Captain Q is really bad.
