|
|
I will start this one-
A- Attitude. My wife has got to be the most cheerful person on the face of the planet. She is eternally optimistic and has a ferocious heart!
B- Singing. Huh? My wife (sometimes under her breath) sings all the time, at home, in taxis, everywhere. This is a great source of delight. I love hearing her sing.
C- Genuine concern for my family and me. My wife goes out of her way to send my parents little gifts and, honestly, speaks to my family (much to their great delight) more then I do.
OK- so these things are not unique to Koreans- but I have never had a relationship like this outside of Korea. Quite honestly, for every 1 thing I can think of that I dislike about her- there are 10 things that I like.
So what about you all? What are the things that delight you about your Korean Significant Other ? |

| Thousands of things. But off the top of my head, the fact that she learned to make dong dong ju in the convent. |

Hmmmm, I'm remembering the scene in High Fidelity where John Cusack is making the list of the things he likes best about his gf and then comes to the things he doesn't like about his gf and just says something along the lines of "just the normal female nueroses."
I guess that's what I like best about my gf she just doesn't do pretty much any of the stereotypical things that women tend to do that drive men nuts in relationships. To top that off she doesn't even have a hint of gungju byeon. Just huge amounts of mature level-headed kindness and she's always something that helps me forget any stress I'm dealing with and never (or at least almost never) a source of stress.
Also I'm continually startled at my own ability of make her happy. Back when she lost her job and needed a shoulder to cry on, instead of going to see her friends or her family she took an hour taxi ride to come see me, because she knew that I'd be the one who'd be best able to cheer her up. Having that sort of thing be the case, makes a relationship just be a joy to be in.
Oh and the also made the ultimate Korean sacrifice. She gave up her cellphone for me I got hit by a car a while ago, which destroyed my cellphone and for a while there I was trying to deal with recruiters and get a job through payphones so she loaned me her cell even though it meant her mom finding out about me which was something she was trying to avoid. |

Aww, what a nice thread.
My husband is really good with kids. I especially love watching him interact with our daughter. It's so sweet.
He is such a joker. He's constantly doing something silly to lighten the situation.
He is always loyal, defending me when others give me sideways looks for doing something "unKorean". Explaining that foreigners do things differently and that's okay.
He puts me above everything else. |

my boyfriend is the most happy, positive-thinking, optimistic person i've ever met. he's underpaid (by a lot) works incredibly long days, plus saturdays, at a job he doesn't like. but when he gets home at 10 or 11 or later at night, he's always sooo happy and smiling. so it keeps me in check when i whine about my really tough 5 hour day......
also, although he's very busy, he always sends me cheesy little text messages throughout the day. at first i thought it was strange, but now i've come to expect them, and they make me smile when on a break between classes. |

He loves Art.
He's an excellent judge of character.
He's warm and friendly without getting emotionally rapped up.
An excellent father who shares my parenting objectives.
Although he's not sentimental, he is honest and loyal.
He has integrity in spades. |

I sing all the time too! though I bet your wife's voice is prettier than mine.
Interestingly, your 'A' would describe my mother-in-law, a virtual saint. |

I`m sorry to raise a stink here, but mine is the fact I haven't got one. My girl is Indonesian and is the most wonderful woman on earth. Moreover, she doesnt spend hours preening herself infront of an oversized mirror attatched to her mobile phone, doesn't have an annoying whiny tone to her voice and everything she cooks isn't polluted with red pepper sauce. On the downside, she believes in just as many silly superstitions, if not more, than your average Korean.
Cheers

Nope- sorry Kangnamdragon. Her only sibling is a little (21 year old) brother in the Korean Air Force. |

jaganath69 - Mine doesn't wear any make up and her cooking doesn't have nearly enough pepper.
What a sappy thread, but I'll play too.
She's a really strange girl. I don't think she is at all typical. When she returned home she sent me an email saying Korean women were overly obsessed with "looking good" and korean men are "ugly and plain". (Not my words) She's kind of like me in that way - walking into a shopping mall makes me ill and fills me with contempt.
She used to hum all the time and I would ask her what she was humming, usually she would reply "song I just wrote in my head." She didn't know how to whistle so I tried to teach her. She sounded like a muted tea kettle but she would do it all the time. I took her to my best friend's sushi restaraunt and she whistled the whole time (even when the staff was talking to us). She came out of the bathroom and I said to her "I could hear you whistling" she said "was I that good?"
She calls me an artist.
She's the smartest person I've ever met.
Lush, your C - I took her to my parents house while I thought they weren't there so she could meet my dog. I didn't want my parents to meet her. My mom happened to be there and I couldn't pull her away from my mom. Out came the baby pictures. My last girlfriend said less than 10 words to my parents in the 3 years we dated.
Oh, and she always has to stand on my right side. |

| I found I liked the little things. Like straightening my shirt, or getting my keys before I needed them when leaving the house. She always seemed one step ahead of me in everything. |

| Things like straightening my shirt and picking lint off my clothes would drive me crazy. Thankfully I've never had a girlfriend so compulsed. |

Never compulsed, only showing in the little everyday ways how much she cared for me. I liked it, and I respected her charactor as a way she showed me her love. |

Thats cool isnt it? On April 12th I was woke up by my wife chatting on the phone. It was 5 am. I got up and went into the other room – I was about to ask who it was when I realized she had called my parents for Easter! My wife is a Buddhist. |
