I am just wondering if there are any females out there looking for work these days??? I have to go back to Canada and my school is looking for another female to take my place. But they are only getting responses from men. Are women losing interest in working here? Or is it just the time of year? Very curious as to what is going on. Thanks |

Why are they looking for a female in particular?
What does the sex of a teacher have to do with his/her ability? |

That's the thing, if directors weren't stuck under the perception that a female is a better teacher than a male by default, then they wouldn't be hiring more females than males and you'd see a better balance in the unemployed line... |

Hi
I think that they are looking for a female teacher because they didn't seem to have a lot of students when they had a male teacher. But now I have a lot more so they must think that it is because I am female. I remember when I first started, I was told that a lot of the students were afraid of the male teacher. I am the only teacher at the school and I think that they would like to keep the students they have now. Also, the three English teachers that are on my floor are women. I think that it is much easier for them to talk to a female teacher.
You may not like the reasons, but I understand that they would like to have students at the hogwon. If they feel the need for a female, I think that they should ask for one. It is a good school and I would like to see them do well. Thanks for responding. Have a great week :) |

from what I have seen there are a lot more males teaching here. The reasons for schools perferring males I think has a bit to do with the dynamics of the school. I was at an all female school that had a male teacher for a while and there was defintly a change in the way the korean teachers acted in the school.
As for perferring, I personally don't think that having ovaries makes you a better teacher but unfourtantly we are in korea and they don't always play by our rules. |

I don't think that there are less females it's just that every time one applies for a position they are snapped up straight away. This leaves all the non-female Canadians having to search around looking for positions.
Look on some recruiters job postings and 80% of the positions will say north American and of those 80% will say female preferred.
That's why you can't find any... every one is wanting the same thing. |
