I'm just trying to get some comparison between the two. I'm guessing neither one is top shelf given the ticket prices.
Anybody wanna chime in? |

Although I haven't flown either airline, you can check reviews for most major world airlines here:

It suggests that Air China is marginally better. Air China is part of Star Alliance now, and China Southern is with Skyteam. |

i flew china southern a couple times now -- seats were fairly uncomfortable for my height (6'2" -- 187cm) but not unbearable. There were no individual Tv's on the seat backs, nor was there any in-chair radios/music. So, if youre bargain shopping it's ok for short flights.. |

where are you going?
with air china, i've been delayed every single time and missed 2 connections because of them (both in beijing).
chine southern were nothing to shout home about but the flights were on time.
can't remember much about in-flight entertainment. i'm pretty sure all of them had the individual seat TVs |

In August I did a Seoul to Kathmandu to Sydney and back trip and all 6 flights I had were with China Southern. I'm short so for me the seats weren't terrible and I found the food a bit lacking but edible. On every single flight I had though there were t.v.'s for each seat. I disliked the most were the stop overs in Guangzhou, that airport is a bit lacking in amenities for an international airport. |

I've done the China Southern route between Seoul - Shanghai and Seoul - Beijing and I will probably never do it again.
Granted the travel time is short so it was bearable, but the planes were really uncomfortable. They didnt turn on the air conditioning, and the sound of the air outside of the plane so was so deafening I thought I was in a Cesna.
The entertainment consisted of overhead dropdown screens that were every few rows. There was no sound and just Chinese subtitles - not that it mattered since you couldnt see the subtitles anyway. The movies were also kind of old.
The food was ok, but they served it near the end of the flight.
If you're up for saving money and this is the absolute cheapest flight then I would go for it - but if there are other airlines with similar prices, I would strongly consider them. |
