According to my friend (who lost over 2,000,000 won) the owner of Zenith travel has finally been arrested for avoiding those who he stole money from. She along with a number of others are taking action and building a case against him. Although im not sure how long it will take in korean courts, but at least it finally has happened (his arrest!)

yeah hope so too, unfortunately that will not be an easy task considering that he owes over 61 million won to people. Unless he has a hidden fund bank somewhere, here's to hoping!

I hope he gets nailed hard for this, but do all of you really use travel agents? I go on kayak.com and find the cheapest ticket I can get. Everything else is usually book on other websites, like hostels or hotels. What benefit do you guys get from travel agents nowadays? Was the guy at Zenith offering anything more remarkable than what can be found on your own?

Xanadu in Itaewon have never let me down (I think their 10% airline plus 10% their own - cancellation fee of total 20% is quite high though. Or is that the norm?)

I find that travel agents offer the better deal. Every time I try to finalize a sale online it always comes out a few hundred higher than travel agents.

Yeah that's why I use xanadu, you have the extra help of a person you can go to in person should you need to.

Their prices always match expedia.com exactly, so no complaints there.

Maaybe I'm being a dunce soemwhere here and online is cheaper though?

The same complaints in the two Herald articles came out on Dave's in 2007, so if people had done their homework they wouldn't have been scammed. That doesn't excuse Kang, but it boggles the mind that he was still getting customers. Google is your friend.

He still owes me about 130,000KRW for a ticket I had to buy at the airport for my daughter.

Even though he was arrested he will probably be released soon, possibly go to court, and perhaps be lightly punished. I don't see anything else much happening.

At least the Herald tried to entrap him. I guess they were trying to make amends for printing his advertising for years.

According to a spokeswoman at Korea Tourism Organization, Kangs company had not been legally permitted to serve foreign customers in the first place, and did not have business travel insurance.

So a travel agency must be registered to serve non-Korean customers? Is this what that says?

You need an export license to export goods or services.
