Le Saint Ex (French)

Petra (Arabic)

Dillinger's (burgers)

Suji's (for the pastrami/corned beef - there's a special on the pastrami on Wednesdays)

Sam Ryan's (all around solid Western fare)

I've been to a few of the other fancy restaurants in Itaewon (Isabelle's, Cigale Montmarte) and have left rather unimpressed. Isabelle's didn't have half the stuff on their menu, though the food was really good.

Le Cigale Montmarte just isn't that great; if your specialty is moules frites, you damn well better have decent fries. The fries at that place are pretty clearly frozen, and look remarkably like McDonald's fries. That's not what I want with my mussels. That said, it's not exactly easy to get moules frites in Seoul, so I will still go there occasionally, as the prices aren't awful.

I think many people won't be able to give a good opinion because when they eat there they are drunk and starving.

Chili King! Recent convert.

I also kind of like 전 and the samgyeopsal joint on the road behind and left of Cold Stone. Most of the fancy Western places don't really intrigue me enough to open the wallet unless I'm livin' large.

It might have just been a bad day in the kitchen, but when I went to that Greek place it was seriously the worst Greek food I've ever eaten.

My friends went on and on about the amount of food they got. Maybe it was a quality vs quantity sort of situation? I haven't had a lot of Greek food so I'd have a hard time comparing.

Map

The sign is seriously tiny, it's across the street/alley from some Swedish/French-looking place. I should also note the chili is not spicy, may want to ask if it can be ramped up if that's what you're after.

What/where is Isabelle's? And Le Saint Ex, though that sounds familiar (is that the place across from Sam Ryan's?)? I need some new spots.

Le Saint Ex is the place across from Sam Ryan's. The menu rotates based on what they find at the market, and the quality is pretty solid across the board.

Isabelle's is just down the street. It was good food, but I really wouldn't recommend going, considering the prices and how poorly run the place was. I saw them turn away a ton of people because they didn't have reservations (and the restaurant didn't have enough steak to serve any walk-ins, it seemed). There's a minimum order on each type of steak and your meal is priced based on how much you get, but when I went they either had a 200 gram or a 400 gram, the former being too small for my girlfriend and I to share and the latter being significantly more than we needed (at a high premium). I understand why this is the case, as it's very high quality steak and not in high supply in Korea, but having half the menu unavailable to us due to it being out of stock (on a Saturday) was a bit absurd.

My favorite* restaurants:

1) Flying Pan - love the breakfast. am a regular.
2) Le Saint Ex - very authentic French food. no matter what you get here, it will be amazing.
3) Zelen - tasty Bulgarian food, classy place. pretty much close your eyes and pick an item on the menu and it will be awesome.
4) Petra - excellent Middle Eastern. the taste cannot be beaten in this particular category in Itaewon, so it gets on the list.
5) Berlin - more of a lounge bar but the food is always just perfect

* If money aint a thang.

Honorable mention:

- Evergreen (pakistani/northern-indian food, down the street from Taco Bell)

Been curious about Le Saint Ex. Almost have been there a few times. Somewhat pricey, at least for this scumbag. Man... I want to class it up sometimes, but... I seriously am loving the $20 steak at Sam Ryan's these days.

Has anyone heard of some new steakhouse called The Butcher's Cut? Opinions??

What kind of food does Berlin have? Keep hearing it's really good... only went there for a drink once, didn't check out the menu.
