Your new sponsor...

Could my new sponsor be any individual Korean national or does it have to be an organization?

Or in other words, could my Korean partner on the project be my sponsor?

At this point you need to stop with the hypotheticals.

Any Korean business / organization that is properly established can apply to sponsor a foreign employee. They do have a LOT of hoops to jump through.

If your "new project" is just something on the idea board then no, they would not be able to sponsor you nor would you be able to work at your hagwan and continue your project without violating your status of sojourn.

You would need to go out of Korea at the end of your E2 and return as a tourist or look at being a "business supervisor (offshore registered company)/treaty trader/investor (D7/Cool or a consultant/specialist (E7). IF you plan to enter as an entertainer (E6) then the business must already be established and you would need to prove your ability/experience as an entertainer.

This thread is done.

Somebody mentioned the D 10 in this thread. I thought maybe I can shed a little light on the subject by adding my two-cents worth.

After being dismissed from my job and not being able to find a new job in the 15 day grace period, I got my E2 transferred to a D 10. only 60000 won. This keeps me legal in Korea while I wait for my paperwork to arrive to apply for a new E2 (or get married to a Korean, whichever comes first).

My hogwon was not a fortune 500 company and the Korea Immigration website says that former E2's can get a D 10 in order to get a new job in Korea.

When applying for a couple of weeks extension online is there any kind of paperwork confirmation they send that can be printed out as proof that the extension was granted, or do you just cross your heart and pray to the Gods of activex that the whole thing was properly received and processed?
Thanks.

sorry to hijack....

my contract finishes on feb 28th but i was given a 13 month visa which expires on march 28th (on the ARC card).

once i finish my current job, i'm allowed to sit on my ass for a month and take it easy until expiration date of the ARC?

alternatively, i can look for new work and try to get a new job during that time?

thanks very much.

i'll be leaving korea for a honeymoon during that time but will be back before my ARC expires.

assuming i find a new employer before the ARC ends, do i need to jump through all the CRB, apostille, medical hoops again?

Not if they have them on file already.

And had an overstay marked into your file (which can complicate future visa applications).

Lucky you. I know several others who had overstays on their file and now require a consular interview for every new visa application - no more visa runs to Japan.

I have a spin on this, sort of...

How bad of an idea is it to stay in Korea and work on a D-10 visa, granted that a school too small to sponsor your wants to hire you? And then, let's say after the visa expires, you hope over to Japan and back to finish the contract on a tourist visa....

Would that be a terrible idea? Would one have any trouble making deposits into a bank account? Like, does Immigration look closely enough to think that might be suspicious? 0_o

Thanks!

Getting caught working on a D10 is the same as working on a tourist stamp with similar consequences.
