That sounds dangerously like communism. Laughing
LOL 1,600 won = expensive for a subway ride. Try multiplying that by about 5 to go one stop on the London underground.
Another reason not to move to England

Does this mean all the senior citizens won't be able to ride it for free? The current Bundang line is always packed with the elderly.

And isn't it great that there's quick, new public transportation between two of the richest areas in Korea, just the people who so desperately need it?

Agree with the above post stating how an automated line should be cheaper not more expensive, but maybe the extra charge is to cover the insurance for when the computers freeze up and the line derails? That could be one wild ride.

I dare to say bekinseki was running in a line similar to your own.

I remember life even before the bundang line was in. The only way to get there was by scooter or taxi or bus. Them was the days. We stole our scooters, head butted our women n dragged em by the hair, smacked the kids around whenever we needed to (no phone cameras) and ruled the western English world of Korea.

I am only kidding. Jeez. Wink

It's open now. I rode it this afternoon. 15ish minutes from Jeongja to Gangnam. Sweet!

The trains didn't start up until 3pm yesterday in Jeongja, but it was open yesterday in Bundang.

I rode it yesterday and was impressed.
There's no overhead storage space, but nice otherwise (and fast!)

Has anyone else noticed how terrible the pronunciation of the station names is in English? It's like they decided to use the worst possible American pronunciation of the word. Jeongja sounds more like "JongZa". It's quite humorous.

Did it open yesterday?

http://kojects.com/2012/09/09/line-extensions-bundang-line-northern-extension/

Quote:
The northern extension of the Bundang line will open on October 6. Construction on the extension began in October 2004 and since then downtown Gangnam has had to put up with reduced road width, trucks and cranes while the line was installed. The trouble will be worth it for many who have been waiting years for a better connection between central Gangnam districts and the north of Seoul. Trains will operate every 3-4 minutes during peak hours and every 8 minutes at other times.

Great question! I want to know too. That extension will suddenly make Hanti (the nearest station to my house) so much more useful for me.

If the price is higher because it's built by private companies, that probably just means it's not (as?) subsidized. I think the subway and bus shouldn't be subsidized at all to reflect the true cost of taking transit. After all, why should someone who never uses public transit have to pay for those who do?

This is one way the fat cats get their hands on some private political funds. Over-charged fare will go to pockets of fat cats. MEOW!
