I was denied a work visa (well over a year ago) for reasons that are still unclear.
Have a clean FBI background check, am in good health, never failed a drug test.
I did leave a job mid-way through a contract, but it's possible the real reason was something as minor as my resume dates stated I was in the country for 1 year, when I was really only there for 6 months (which is clearly stamped in my passport). A dumb error, and one I'm sure immigration did not look favorably upon.
Anyhow, getting ready to reapply & test the waters in Korea. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar situation, and obtained a work visa after being denied once?
I'm expecting to be denied again, simply because current immigration employees will see I was denied once, and probably not look into it any further. But who knows, a tiny smidgen flame of hope still burns... |

Who gave you "unclear" reasons? The school, recruiter, or Korean embassy?
Unless you went to the embassy, you didn't go to the right source. I would think in an English speaking country you could get a reasonable explanation if not something written out. Leaving a job before the year is up is not going to matter to anyone but the recruiter.
This makes me think you were simply lied to by a recruiter. It's quite possible your paperwork was never processed and the recruiter told you that you were denied (they found another teacher in Korea to take the job). Otherwise, you didn't have all your paperwork. Maybe the criminal background check wasn't stamped, maybe you/recruiter checked the wrong box, and they thought you were applying for an F visa.
So many things could have gone wrong. Apply again with all the documents and don't listen to the recruiter or school. Find out from the Korean embassy in your country. |

Yeah when I first moved here in '08 I was denied my visa because I was already in the country and they thought I was working illegally. The same day I was denied my school reapplied for the visa and about a month later I was approved.

It depends on the why, where (in the process), and by whom that your application was denied.
IF at the visa confirmation number stage you can get a new application with a new employer and a different answer.
If at the consular level then probably not.
If the recruiter/employer "denied and lied" then claimed it was Kimmi then no problem.

It was the recruiter who was working directly for an English village north of Seoul. I never did receive direct confirmation or reasons from Korean immigration. In retrospect, it seems very possible, as you say, that the recruiter just lied.

It was at the visa confirmation number stage. I had mailed my documents to the school recruiter, and was waiting to receive the visa number. Sounds promising since it happened at that stage in the process.
Thanks to all who posted for your comments and advice. It is much appreciated. |

I think you'll be fine. At the stage it got rejected it could be something as simple as an i without a dot. After the rejection maybe the school found someone in country and thought it would be easier |

Update to this thread: I received a visa.
Those who've been denied a visa before for unclear (arbitrary) reasons, or who have been lied to by a recruiter, take heart.
Thanks to everyone for helpful comments. |
