High Street Market is better anyways.

The bread, cakes, and wine, and beer at High Street Market are awesome! A lot of their products are available at Costco though too, at lower prices (of course some people want the convenience though, so it's worth it for those that do).

Anyone reading this who wasn't been there should check it out.

Agreed! Also, High Street Market is clean. Not filthy and crammed with dated junk like the Foreign Food Market.

I always found her to be quite nice, one time i was looking for some super duper cold medicine or something and she didnt have it, she asks me in her very limited english for my phone number, a day or two later she calls me and says she has it.

its also a part of the "old" korea ill miss when living here was a real adventure and foreign goods were hard to find, the net cafe by kyobo bookstore was the only place to access the net and afkn was a treat for people who lived outside of seoul

She was nice enough to me. I enjoyed dealing with her. The fact that there are many more Western goods is good news for Westerners. It means it's easier to find something. I did watch AFKN. It was nice to watch.

I agree totally, the end of the red door means life has gotten easier for us, we dont need the folks to send care packages etc. newbies wont realize how hard it was to get western things with places like costco, high street etc.

hope she has a nice retirement, i need to go and get a picture of her

She helped me out a few times, too. Overcharged me once, but refunded later without arguing. And, besides, it is the only place in Korea where I ever found Preparation H (I mean off the military base, that is). One of the bloggers/expat magazines should interview her................. Gonna miss that Jimmy Dean sausage......................

She was here when I first came to Korea in late '96 or early '97. She seemed untouchable as far as the police were concerned. Brazen enough to bag up my things in the same US Forces Korea/AAFES bags that they had earlier left the army base in, ha...

Her daughter used to have a small shop nearby, too. Still there??

her daughter's shop closed a few years ago, if she didnt have what you're looking for she'd call her daughter and see if she had it

Yeah, where is High Market Street. I didn't see it in Itaewon, and the Foreign store is too crowded for my taste. I like some of the stuff at the foreign store, and they have more stuff, but I am not crazy about the place.

It's where the old Thai Orchid used to be...on the second floor of that building. It's across the street from Marrakesh Nights, next to Imperial Palace Boutique Motel. Here's some pics of the exterior/interior:

Looked in the door today and it is stocked. Doesn't look like it is closing.

Well, stopped in out of curiosity, and she is closing for good this weekend. She said Monday she will not be open. She is having a closing "sale." Not much left at all...

Yes, the Red Door is history. I popped in Saturday evening and bought the last of her Jimmy Dean sausage(and some other things). She looked really sad, but gave me a good discount on everything...........

Yes, I spoke with her today. She said that the army base is making it harder and harder to get stuff out, and she's not able to stay stocked, so she's closing. I think the closer truth is that the things she stocks are now readily available elsewhere for cheaper.

Still, I thanked her and told her I was sad she was leaving. I remember first finding the place (back in 97 ) and feeling like it was Christmas.
