|
|
Hi, I am thinking of relocating to Seoul, however, I really don't know my way around really as I have only visited a few times. So, my question is where is the best/nicest place to live in the capital?
By best or nicest I mean, places that have a bit of greenery as well as a good nightlife scene, good transport links etc...
Perhaps if people could tell me the 'gu' that they live in and why they like it or don't like it then I could make an informed decision. I would rather take advice from people who live there than take it from guidebooks and things like that.
Thankyou in advance for your help.

It depends on where you work.
More generally, somewhere along the green line is probably best for transportation. There are mountain peaks everywhere so you usually don't have to go far for greenery. |

I disagree. Line 2 is pretty inconvenient going north to south, and you might often find yourself transferring twice or going all the way around rather than going somewhere more directly. I find that Line 4 or Line 3 are a bit more convenient, as they can get you near where you need to go on one of the more numerous east/west lines. |

If I had my choice of gu it would be Yongsan-gu......preferably near Hannam-dong. |

Sadang's convenience is due to the fact that it's on Line 4, not the fact that it's on Line 2. Go a few stops west on Line 2 and it's a bit of a hassle to get anywhere besides Gangnam. |

HBC on a budget / 2.2mil a month. Be prepared to be ashamed often for being a caucasian due to the way your peers dress and act.
Hannam dong on a better budget as better class of foriegner there.
Both areas near to where it's at for partying but not right in it. Close to Namsan for some nature. Best area for authentic and well priced eats in Seoul (imo.) |

But you can't transfer at Sadang without exiting and paying again. Or so I've read. |

The convenience is due to the fact that is has two different lines. Go a few stops north on line 4 and you will need to transfer almost all the time. Plus if you live here, you don't need to do that very tricky transferring from line #4 to line #2.

I second Haebangchon/HBC. Though Gyeongnidan is a bit more mellow. I really like how they have Namsan set up, if I weren't a lazy duff then I'd get up there loads more. Plus if you live up the mountain a bit, the 402 is pretty much the most awesome bus in the universe for going anywhere in Seoul.
But your apartment will probably be tied to your job if you're coming over to teach, so don't get your hopes up too much about getting to choose where you live. |

Upper Gyungneedan (veggie hill) is nice! Namsan Park is right there. The #3 Village bus is convenient for Line 6 & 4 and even gets to Yongsan. Buses at the Hyatt will take you to Gangnam and Jongroe in 15 or so min. It's a bit expensive, but very nice!! |

I've lived in Gangnam, Hyewha, and now Kyunglidan (Gyeongnidan, Gyreongridan, however!). My favorite has probably been Hyewha. However, it has been pretty easy to get to most places from the Yongsan area. I was surprised by how much I like it. I particularly loathe the Itaewon types, but it is nothing like HBC. (Thank God!) It's also convenient to things like cheeseburgers, and proper beer. |

Other than Sadang, the vicinity of Sindorim and Hapjeong are both convenient locations. |

living near gangnam station is probably the best location for a single person who is looking to be in the middle of it all in my opinion.
it's near the busiest metro hub in seoul, almost all major metro lines are easily accesible from that location, a ton of nightlife available in sinsa/gangnam/apujeong/cheongdam and a cab ride to itaewon costs 7k and to hongdae around 12k. for those who loathe other foreigners you also have the added benefit of not having many of them around. |
