i was planning on spending part of my winter vacation (late january, early feb) down in thailand this year, but i'm a little concerned with the flooding. i won't be in bangkok for long; just flying in, staying a night, and then taking a long distance bus down south. what are people's estimates on how long the flooding with last for? has anyone been following the situation closely there? |

I spoke to a woman earlier who said the floodwater in Thailand is getting worse.
She left the house this morning and the water was up to her *beep*. |

A couple more weeks is not unreasonable, when you come it will definitely be gone by then. |

as the previous poster said it should be ok in the next few weeks (according to reports) but the Thai Government are absolutely hopeless and incompetent......I'd keep checking on Bangkok Post for the latest

It's a bad situation but it's hard to believe the water would remain after another few weeks.
What they find after the waters recede might be fairly gruesome - I wonder how long the cleanup will take from this and what the long term economic effects will be? |

I've been monitoring the baht versus the dollar, and it's really shocking that the rate hasn't been affected yet. |
