| I'm sure this is covered somewhere on here, but I couldn't find it. Just got my background check and saw the Misdemeanor Class C (possession of a fake ID) from NH is on there from 14 years ago. I thought it was supposed to be exponged, but I guess that only works at the state level. I will renew my visa in January and need to submit my check then. Am I going to be denied? |

| If your record says anything except "NO ARREST RECORD" you will be denied. It's that simple. Look into expunging it ASAP. |

There is a good chance (95%+) that you may be denied.
For those who are in Korea on an E2 you can make a plea in your case to the immigration officer handling your application for the extension and, occasionally, they will let it go.
Even if you do get past immigration you then come up against the new MOE rules and they may deny you registration as a teacher anyway, even if immigration as approved an extension to your E2. If they do you will not be allowed to work.
Plan on another country.

| I've heard that the hardline stance seems to be eroding a bit -- some people are pleading their cases (by writing letters of explanation to immigration) and getting their visas. I think any drug-related or sex-related charges will still be 100% rejected, and most other charges will probably still get you rejected...but I personally know of a couple of people that DID get their E-2 visas, despite not having spotless records. It may well be worth a try -- but definitely make back-up plans.... |
