As with any hogwon, conditions can vary widely within a school chain. It really depends on wheter your manager is a closed minded little chit or not. You'd need to get specifc info from your potential school! Why not type your schools name and address into Facebook, you might find a teacher who works there. I did that before and it worked.

p.s. If you're not in Korea right now, maybe you should consider taking the job. There are many applicants for each job nowadays.

From reading these posts, I got a really negative vibe about the Avalon schools but the Topia had far less complaints. Thanx for your reply.

Don't count on that. Franchising changes everything, as each franchise school is run fairly independently.

When you get the details of the school, post the location (preferably in a new thread) so that people can give you an answer.

Hi all,

I just got done with the first interview with Topia near Bucheon. Has anyone had any experience with this location? What is the working condition like? Pay on time? etc. I am a recent graduate going to Korea to teach English and was wondering if this is a good place to work for or should I look into somewhere else?

I am also on an F-4 visa if that means anything. Thanks for all inputs in advance Smile

Those hours sounds horrific.

I'm upset that I'm doing 24 hours a week. Surprised

All people headed to Avalon and Topia next year should be informed that they will be working Saturdays before summer hits.

This is 100% confirmed for Avalons and I have it on good authority that Topia is headed in the same direction and will ask all of their teachers to sign new contracts with the Saturday clause sometime after the new year comes.

You will still only work 5 days a week, but the sucky thing is that you could easily have Sunday and some random day off during the week, like Tuesday or Thursday. Which in essence would make it impossible to do anything on your 'weekend'.

Anyone working/worked at Topia in Pyeongtaek? I'm moving there this weekend and starting work on Feb. 1.

I have a friend who was working there last year. She claimed the Korean and foreign staff turnover was huge and most of the workers and students were pretty miserable with the workload. According to her she was happy to get out when she did as it sounded like things had gone downhill further since. PM me if you want more info, as I'm just basing it on memory of a few conversations and wouldn't want to make public anything that isn't 100% correct. Any specific questions I can ask and get back to you.
For what it's worth Topia in general as a chain doesn't have a very good reputation. Do a search both here and on google for reviews.

Sounds like Saudi Arabian working standards, except in Saudi you get 3500 USD per month. I don't know about Topia.
