Ever notice how Koreans will just stand on the left side of the escalator when it should be the passing lane? I hear the Seoul city government tried to get people to stand on the right and pass on the left but it seems to have backtracked.

I've seen this behavior in Manila and other Asian cities as well but I've also had incidents where Koreans wouldn't move and I argued with them.

I think what most people notice and it's pretty humerous is the way the older people stop and stand at the top of the escalator wondering looking around.

That's not true, at least not in recent years. All of the signs in the subway station clearly say to stand on both sides of the escalator and not to walk. Walking is too dangerous. Koreans are just doing what they're told. Whether the government position is a good one is another question entirely.

I give people who stand on the left side the mean look and they move. In Japan, you're supposed to stand on the left side and walk up or down on the right, which is fine by me.

People from Hong Kong and Singapore are very good about escalator etiquette and it's no wonder why both cities are Asian hubs as opposed to Seoul's incessant campaigns on how it wants to be one.

No, this isn't about me being grumpy today, it's something that's been going on for years and it bothers me.

I also hate the people who think they are going to walk up the escalator but can't tear themselves away from staring at their cell phone for two minutes so they walk very slowly. Task at hand, mofos. MARCH.

If it bothers you so much, use the stairs.

Well moaning about it on Daves will sort the problem out wont it!

If this is the biggest problem that you've got to face in life at the moment, look on the bright side! Razz

On a side note: What really bothers me are people that make statements sound like questions!

NOW this is a world wide problem that needs to be addressed now!

I've heard the Japanese are about as obsessed with this as the British are about the queue.

I like complaining just as much as the next guy but a "Jomshee-manyo" usually does the trick. Unless its one D-bag way up there holding up the left side. Yes, as one poster said, they tried to change the rules and said no more walking up the escalator..but c'mon, just get outta the way. I think some people enjoy making life harder for others. When you can see that it's gonna be crowded (again, as another poster said) make a dash for the stairs.

The "excuse me" line works most of the time but I've had arguments with @#$#$! ajeossis who won't budge even though they are holding up the line.

Being an advanced country, something which Korea wants to be so badly yada yada yada, begins with the small stuff.
