you name it...everything of korea can win an internet vote, thats no doubt.

btw, new7wonders.com , dude, at least buy a domain of org, stay professional.

Everyone can make such a website and it doesn't have any credit to me.

It's legit...

When I post my comment, I didn't do any research, all was based on my intuition.

Since you questioned and I then did google a little bit. And THIS proved my intuition is right.

UNESCO made a statement in 2007 that they are not involved in the "new 7 wonders" thing.

People might say, well, it doesn't have to be UNESCO who can decide a new wonder in the world.

But again, I also self-nominated my hometown as the new 12 miracles in the universe.

Here we go. Its all coming out now.

Jeju Island spent W21.1 billion on phone calls alone during voting for inclusion among the "New 7 Wonders of Nature" (US$1=W1,116). The Jeju government informed the National Assembly's Culture, Sports, Tourism, Broadcasting and Communication Committee of the expenses at a meeting on the island on Thursday.

Quote:
The island has spent W8.15 billion from its 2012 budget to pay for the phone bill and tapped into the supplementary budget to cover another W2.28 billion. KT has agreed to let Jeju pay the remaining W6.5 billion in monthly installments of W110 million over the next five years.

To get people to participate in the phone voting, Jeju officials formed a sponsorship deal with KT so that each international phone call vote were charged just W198, rather than the regular W1,200.

Jeju assembly member So Won-ok said the island "ended up buying the title and it cost taxpayers an arm and a leg." A Jeju government official said

This ridiculous scam is as simplistic as the "Who's Who Among American High School Students" that we all saw through when we were teenagers.

True, but the other places on the list strike me as a lot more legit than Jeju. I think the biggest problem with this list was that they didn't have any consistency of scale. You've got some very specific places (Iguazu Falls, Puerto Princesa Underground River, Table Mountain), some more general places (Jeju, Komodo, Halong Bay), then you've got the freaking Amazon. How can you compare a waterfall to an entire ecosystem?
