| Is it possible for your former employer to try and sue you over writing a bad review on this website? Even if everything you posted is completely true? |

| Truth is not a defense, but the public interest is. Not only that, but your former employer must demonstrate how your review tangibly hurt his business. While it may well be that the lawsuit gets thrown out of court, it's probably not that pleasant to fight it. |

Well you wrote this (edited 2 times), even as this text stands (and even if 100% true) I still think you're setting yourself up for a fall here!
You said they've changed managment quite a lot recently/unstable cet ect.
Now they have a perfect excuse if things go '*beep* up' with their buisness - your review killed their buisness - all they have to do is have 1 or two 'parents' swear' that they've seen this review and that after reading they decided to pull their children out......
I'm not an expert in these matters but I think you are on VERY VERY dodgy ground here!

You will no receive pension. Or Health insurance. You will be told 30 minutes before the kids arrive that you need to come up with something brand new. Your managers will not listen to a word you say. There have been 3 owners over the span of 5 months, so there isn't a lot of stability. They will force you to work 6 days a week without overtime pay or added days off. When you try to maintain the conditions of your contract they will lie to you and tell you that your contracts aren't valid and try to force you into working more. You will make a million new plans for classes that will never be used and then told to come up with more. Some of your work will be thrown out after you've worked hours on it. You aren't treated as a teacher, but instead a monkey that is supposed to dance around and entertain. Don't come here thinking that you will be respected or even taken seriously, because to this company (and I call it a company and not a school) only cares about the money coming and not the students. Gwangju International English Village will cram your classes past capacity, promise things to schools that don't exist, and then leave you there to try and explain why you don't have the things they were promised (and then tell you YOU don't care about the customer). A large number of teachers since this place has reopened have either quit or attempted to quit but were denied Letters of Release. Please run... Run far away, because other schools would be willing to pay you the same with much better working conditions.

| Don't you want to warn people about getting into a bad situation? Would you want to work at a school like that if they treated their employees that badly? Isn't that the purpose of websites like these? To give reviews on schools so future employees are aware of what they are about to walk into? |

I think you need to practise your defense a little more buddy!
My advise is free - a lawyers might not be!
You rolled a dice when you took a private school position (as can be the case with PS ) - but the good thing about PS are they are not buisnesses! |

Thanks for doing the review.
Still.....
Sucks to be you. I would not have done the review unless I was away from Korea. Or at least spent enough time away from it.
In the end you can try and fight it, but I could say it could go either way. Really do consider the just leaving.
Sort of wish you had learned about this before hand. Warning to new people.
Careful about naming names and bad mouthing your school. You will notice when some people post about a school - the will give generalities or to use PM to give the details. Some people do it for privacy, whiles others do not because of the libel laws here. Throw in the censorship Daves sometimes does for customers. Hey their site their rules. |

Is that ESL list site a honey-pot? I mean, it has you list your start date and end date of your contract, as well as the exact location of the school -- how hard would it be for a school to figure out who wrote what review?
I mean, if yer gonna post there, at least put some bogus dates in, so that there is SOME plausible deniability.... |

There is no proof he did that. Someone else could post about it. Unless he admits to it, there is no proof. |

Really? That's what you are going with?
Remember Minerva?
Good lord -- *I* could probably find supateacha's real name within a few hours on the Internet, and probably sooner if I were fluent in Korean -- most likely I could go to the GEV website (provided in the ESL list review) and go to the faculty list page. Done and done....
I am not saying it would be WORTHWHILE for the school to pursue a lawsuit, but there are a lot of petty people in the world, as well as people who do things to make a point.
*I* would suggest taking more care when covering one's hindquarters. |

Ok, find my name then, and then prove I typed this message.
What prize would you like for this daring feat Kimchi Knievel? |

I have no idea if YOU cover your heiney -- talking about the OP.
I have no idea if the school could WIN a case against the OP, but they could certainly find out who the OP is, and they could certainly BRING a case against him (whether or not the case is spurious), and that kind of thing can be expensive and annoying, regardless of whether they win or lose.
He is also still in-country, as I understand it, and so if they know who he is and where he is, they could make additional problems for him.
He was trying to help other folks by warning them away from a bad school, and that is a very nice thing to do -- but since the truth is NOT a valid defense against libel/slander in Korea, he needs to be sure he is protected. Part of that is being careful about sharing identifying information.
In a perfect world, Koreatimes, you would be right and the OP would be safe. The world in which I live ain't so perfect, and I advise folks to act to keep themselves safe, rather than expecting someone else to do it for them.
What part of that bothers you, Koreatimes?
I mean, no one SHOULD break into your apartment, right? And there are laws against it, and police to enforce those laws, and places where folks are sent when they break those laws...and yet, isn't it wise to lock your door when you go out? Heck, isn't it wise to keep your door locked, even when you are home? Simple precautions that SHOULDN'T be necessary, but kind of silly NOT to take them....
If you can be sued for telling the truth, and you don't want to be sued, either you avoid telling the truth, or you take precautions so that you can't be sued as easily...and I am suggesting the latter, not the former. |
