Several folks have sent this my way... If you need more reason not to like Chik Fil-A, check out this Tumblr post about some UC Irvine students' -- who happen to be Asian -- recent visit to the fast food chain.

Take a good look at those receipts. The cashier did not ask for their names when she (I'm assuming "Lia" is a woman) took their orders, but apparently took it upon herself to provide these Asian customers with names of her own invention:

So my friend is an RA here at UC Irvine and he went to Chik Fil-A with his residents. The cashier did NOT ask for their names, but when they got their receipts, this is what they said. If you know anything about UCI, you probably know that we have a reputation as being an Asian-dominant school. Fifty-three percent, actually. And while the victims of this act are indeed Asian, it shouldnt matter. The fact that ignorant language like this is used to describe people is UNACCEPTABLE.

Chik-Fil-A is delicious.

The company didn't do anything. The individual Cashier did something. Unless I see a corporate memo from Chik-fil-A ordering their employees to be racist, I'm not going to say the entire company is racist and promoting racism.

I'm not saying that it's okay but I wouldn' call it racist.

Stereotypes and racism are different things.

I'm asian, and I thought that was pretty funny. Ok, its offensive but when I saw "racism" in the title, I thought the employee refused to serve the customers or something. It would've been icing on the cake if the customers were really named Ching and Chong.

Chick-fil-a contributes to homophobic/anti-gay causes.

It's a shame that it's delicious.

But I don't know anyone (except conservatives) who claim racism is dead in the US.

Darn, my absentee vote for Lia as representative of the entire U.S. population now makes me feel quite foolish.

Seriously, people need to look up "racism" and use it accordingly. Otherwise, that word is losing its important meaning.

People are allowed to hold their own views. But, in this case, I think she should be fired.

I dont think anyone thinks that racism is dead anywhere. Pretty shameful. But on the other hand pretty funny.

Just as a matter of interest would it the same as calling two Irish people "Potato" and "Mick" or something. Or is that one "worse"

America is segregated and divided and chooses to keep their distance using cars and closed doors and offense can easily be taken when a stranger is approached and talked to. This cultural failure is not because the government oppresses, but because the people choose to fear each other and take irrational offense of one another due to ignorance and the failure to interact successfully outside of close nit groups. Diversity doesn't work. United we stand; divided we fall.

It happened yea, BUT it was the actions of an INDIVIDUAL in his/her own witless attempt at humor. That being said when an employee works for a company they can be liable as a representative of the company HENCE why they tell you to act accordingly with normal standards not some mindless dolt. This person's actions do lean more towards stereotyping, now had she called them chink or gook...WHOLE different story

So if two black guys in an Outback in Seoul were called "Michael Jackson" and "Michael Jordan" by the staff, we'd say it was just "funny"?

If I was working at McD's back home and I called two random Latinos "Paco" and "Luiz" or two black guys "Rayshawn" and "Tyrone" that would be a big knee slapper? If two white people walked into a Chinese restaurant and were called "Bubba" and "Billy-Bob" it might have a sort of ironic Dave Chappelle-esqe "That was racist!" humor to it, but I think the reactions would be different.

I agree that this is the action of an individual, not a culture. But I think that that standard should be used everywhere.

Now, we can apologize for ignorance and whatnot, but I think "funny" is the last word that should be used in defense of such things.

You do realize that when people see NETs getting in a huff over the slightest things and screaming racism and then saying that something like this is "funny" or not racist it doesn't exactly bring people together and make them trust each other, right?

I agree with SR.

We don't know the intention, but it comes across as racist to me. Sure, it may not be the "back of the bus" kind, but it does smack of racial mockery. It's akin to walking past an Asian and saying "ching, chong, ching..." and so on.

It's rude, and at the very least, bad customer service. I know nothing about the company, but would expect disciplinary measures if proved true.

chik fila has never had any issues like this from all the ones ive been to, all over the southern usa where there is still lots of racism towards people of NON white origin and ive NEVER had this happen to myself or any other person of any race, color, or creed. This is definitely an individual. My friends worked for this chain and they said their manager always got on their ass if they did anything even remotely biased or things of this nature even in a joking way
