I understand that there is a 6 month probation guide line with the labor board. However, what if someone is less than six months into their current contract, but the current contract is a renewal. Meaning, the person has been at the school for more than a year with no break in employment. Is that 6 month probation time still in effect with the new contract?

6 months with the same employer, NOT 6 months into a contract.

If you have been there more than 6 months you are not considered to be a probationary employee.

I recently read the labor law regarding the advanced notice of layoff topic.

It looks like if you have less than 6 months (and are a month to month salaried position) at a particular employer they are not required to give you 30 days notice?

Mostly a curiosity question at the moment but I notice in my contract I am supposed to give 30 days notice and wonder if they are bound to give at least 30 days also? This is a new contract for me but not my first public school.

I did. Maybe I'm missing something but it seems like a vague spot to me. After 6 months it would be clear under K - labor law but prior to six months it seems to read I would be required to give 30 days but it's unclear if they are required to.

Hopefully that's understandable!!
