A polar bear never get a cold, right?
I do believe people are different as well. Some are like polar bears. But some are not.
I can adapt well from very hot weather to very cold weather because of the place I am from. But my African and Indian friends are having a really bad time nowadays.
I have never got a cold in the past 6 years. But my coworkers get colds often as the weather change, that's the fact. |

Your co-workers might develop all sorts of symptoms as a result of the cold weather, chronic nasal or bronchial deficiencies or seasonal allegies, or what have you but if more of them have the actual cold or flu virus during winter it's probably only because they caught it from hanging around in the hospital waiting to get a jab alongside a few people who genuinely had the flu. |

Do you mean that this statement is not true, or do you mean that most people mistakenly think that this the way the quote goes, when in fact it should, "The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil."?
Along those lines, I've heard many mistakenly refer to Gibbon's seminal work as "The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire." |

Maybe I am judgmental, I decided not to check those links as soon as I read the domain names.
Also getting a cold doesn't has anything to do with life spans. ( i mean the more colds you get doesn't mean you will live shorter life, so far as I know)
Just as in the post which talked about colon cancer, a high cancer incidence doesn't mean people live shorter life in general. |
I also had a hard time believing that being cold cannot give you a cold. The best explanation I could get was that "if you are not infected, being cold will not give you a cold since the virus cannot come from nowhere". A sore throat (which is not really a cold) is apparently caused more by dry air than cold air, but cold air is naturally also dry (not sure if I believe this one either, but so I've been told).
But it is pretty clear to me that being cold can reduce the strength of your immune system, and a weakened immune system is more likely to get ill. I am still open to be convinced otherwise, but I haven't heard any good reasoning for why a cold infection cannot progress more easily if you get cold.
As a side note, I am very curious to what diseases completely isolated people (as in living in a space station) will get. Will they never catch a cold? |

You can get a cold anytime in a year, but more colds happen in winter than any other seasons, you can't ascribe all to hanging around in the hospital.
If you are not a kid or a senior or in any special condition, getting a cold is not necessarily a bad thing anyway. |

I personally don't ascribe it to anything. I just go by what the doctors say. And I mean real doctors, not those trying to sell stuff. |

Really?
- ie after c: ancient, species, science, sufficient, society
- ei not preceded by c: seize, weird, eider, either, height, foreign, leisure, counterfeit, forfeit, neither, their, queueing, Keith, reinsure |

You forgot the link to Cracked's article
Your Mom Lied: 5 Common Body Myths Debunked
http://www.cracked.com/article_15916_your-mom-lied-5-common-body-myths-debunked.html
There seems to be some back and forth about cold weather and getting, or not getting a cold:
| Quote: |
The Lie:
We all heard this one while storming out the door in our pajamas in a desperate quest to bury ourselves in the field of fresh snow just outside the threshold of our homes. "Put a jacket on! You'll catch your death out there!" she'd scream, especially if this was all taking place in the 1950s. That's just like your mom to "kill your buzz" and "cramp your style" when all you wanted to do was skinny dip down in the ol' (half-frozen) fishing pond. So against your will you ended up waddling out the door bundled in seven layers of clothing, all due to your mother's half-cocked misconceptions about colds.
The Truth:
In your mother's defense, there's a definite causality between cold weather and colds, but we'll get to that in a moment, after explaining why she's so horribly, horribly wrong. You see, the "common cold" is caused by the rhinovirus.
What your mom misunderstood about our friend the rhinovirus is that he is just that, a virus. Viruses are pure undead malevolence encoded into genetic material and wrapped up in a creepy protein shell. They aren't even technically alive, so temperature has no affect on them. They're just tiny zombies that you can't even shoot in their microscopic zombie heads.
So why do people get a cold when it's cold out? It depends on who you ask, but if you ask Robert Bradsher M.D. you'll learn that "cold weather usually makes people stay indoors, which might increase the person-to-person transmission of respiratory viruses." Really, if your mother was smart and well informed she would have kicked your ass outside so she could enjoy her Southern Comfort, childless home and germ-free air.
It should also be noted that when you did finally catch that cold, your mom starving your cold and forcing orange juice down your throat did absolutely jack-all for curing you.

| The reason for these two myths is related to human behaviour. As it said in the cracked article people tend to stay inside and stay closer together in the cold weather and parents associate hyperactivity with sugar as they generally tend to let kids have sweet drinks, chocolate etc... more on special occasions. When the kids will be more excited and therefore hyperactive than normal anyway. |

"Love is blind" itself is an analogy, can you tell an analogy is true or false?
What can happen without a reason? example?
what does "pull off the average girl's fb profile" mean? |

from what i gather and i could be wrong, we contract these rhinoviruses that cause colds by any number of means and from there two things happen. they are either quickly irradicated by our immune system and we never notice it, or our core body temperature drops to a temperature threshold where the viruses start to thrive and multiply quicker than our immune system can take them out. the types of viruses and bacteria that target humans have a very narrow range of temperature where they can operate efficiently. that is one of the reasons why when we are sick we get a fever, because we are in essence, cooking away the viruses and bacteria. it is also a reason why your mother told you to not go out with cold hair because your head is a major source of heat loss and the evaporation of the water accelerates it, thus bring your core temperature down to an un-ideal level opening up the chances to "catch a cold".
again, i could be wrong about some of this though and if a licensed md would like to chime in that's cool. |

I don't believe in anything anymore.......
I did know that cold weather doesn't directly lead to getting colds, and have been trying to convince my Korean wife of this for 6 years now. She won't have any of it. Even when I show her hard medical evidence.......I think Koreans are just hard-wired into believing that you get the cold from being cold. You could have every expert in the world tell them this and they still wouldn't believe you. |
