It's the new year, and I need some new music in my life.
But what are some good ways to find it?
At home it was somewhat easier, but even then I might be at a friend's place
and hear a new band, and think "Why don't I know about these guys?"
My musical tastes range from: Indie/underground rock, to classical--depending on my mood. I am NOT a pop fan, however.
What I tend to do is, if I hear something I like in a movie; I'll try to find it online and take it from there.
I will also Google different genres to try to find something.

How do you find your music?

TuneIn Radio on my Android phone. Thousands of radio stations classified by region, style, etc. You can even do a search for specific songs and artists and radio programmes.

If you don't have a smartphone:

http://tunein.com/

You're welcome.

I usually try do a music swap with people I know here, which can be a good way to get into some new or different types of music. I also use lastfm.com and 8tracks.com is a nice little site where users can listen and upload their own playlists, almost like making a mix-tape (remember those?!)

www.nme.com
www.indieshuffle.com
www.drownedinsound.com
www.bbc.co.uk/6music

Hope that helps!

I've been doin Yahoo videos for ages.

There's Pitchfork mag for indie stuff.

Allkpop for K Pop news & features.

Lastfm.com is a nice web-based player with tons of world music - KPop, Jpop, Euro, etc.

BBC Radio has an ap for Window 7 to put on your desktop.

Arirang Radio English broadcasting is pretty good. Just look for the station in your area.

If you can find your way into one of those invite only sharing sites, it will change your world. Not sure if anyone here knew about/used Oink before it got shut down, but that place had the most amazing archive I've ever seen, and I'm a huge audiophile. I've been using a different one since then, but you can't access it without the invitation, obviously. It always depends on what you're into, but Pirate Bay and other torrent sites are the way to go when you actually find/know what you're looking for.

I just go to shows. Too often the same bands play every week, but every once in a while something new comes around...then they too start playing every week.

I found a music market in Sangsang Madang this weekend that was selling tons of CDs from a huge selection of independent labels. I bought three and I would've bought more if I stuck around longer.
