I just saw this on craigslist: http://seoul.craigslist.co.kr/edu/2787544240.html

It wasn't posted by me though. I do not know anything about this particular recruiter myself, so I can't confirm the validity of the craigslist link.

I e-mailed the person who wrote that on Craigslist and he said he wasn't paid for part-time work, which I thought was weird because recruiters aren't usually the ones paying teachers.

But I read your post about eslteacher@paran and I'm assuming that John from JobNCO does the same thing. (Taking a lump-sum from employers/paying teachers).

I've e-mailed JobNCO several times before, but never received any replies. But I did get a mass e-mail ad from him a week or two ago, which left a bad taste in my mouth.

Many people seem to get ignored by him. He posts a lot of interesting jobs, so it's a shame.

This is what one person wrote about him though:

Quote:
I knew this guy long before he was a recruiter! He is a friend of mine. We used to hang out several years ago before he decided to get into recruiting. It was after I moved away from Anyang and he moved north of Seoul that we stopped talking often and he became a recruiter.

Because I know him personally, he was the guy I went to when my friends in Canada wanted to get jobs through GEPIK. He did a good job getting them over here and he put them in good schools (near mine) but he is working by himself (I believe) which makes things slow if it's a busy season.

Anyway, I can't vouch for him as a recruiter as I haven't talked to him in a few years but I know he's a stand up guy and I know he's trying his best. He's not out to get anyone, it's not in his character.

I've heard rumors that his job offers are fakes and he is just collecting a database of names, contacts info to sell to other recruiters.

I do find it highly suspicious that he has many job offers that are not being advertised by ANY other recruiter. He never contacts anyone for any of the open positions.

Also, a lot of the jobs seem almost too good to be true. 55,000w an hour when all the other postings are advertising 45,000w an hour,

I think pkang is likely correct. I corresponded electronically to the person in question a number of times when I was looking for a new job.

He posts a lot of after school position openings, which were the only jobs I applied for, and he rarely responded back. That was over a period of three or four weeks. I was in Korea with a LOR, LORec, and previous experience. I did talk on the phone with him a few times, but nothing substantive came of it, and I was assured a call back more than once, only to never receive one. And he asked for my resume about three different times.

I assumed he had forgotten about me; but him selling contact info to other recruiters seems to make a lot of sense, now that I think about it. He hardcore spams CL and worknplay.

Yeah. But at the same time, if you don't pay your employees then you deserve a little bit of retribution. Twisted Evil

Now I'm worried about all of the other "independent recruiters" out there. They post some of the best paying jobs for part-time work. Confused

I wrote that on Waygook. I know the guy.

Anyway, I guess he's changed. My friends and I hung out with him before he got into recruiting (he ran a small massage business at the time). He seemed like an alright guy back then and I still talk to him occasionally on Facebook and through other means.

I'm not denying what other people have said, it's just somewhat of a shock. You think you know somebody...

I'm starting to wonder if all the "@paran.com" email address guys are from the same group or even the same person? There are two or three variations with the words "esl" or "english" or "job" or "teaching" that seem to be floating around posting part-time gigs with adults or companies. I wonder if all these English names are just pseudonyms for the same recruiter. I guess I wouldn't be surprised if it was one guy or a couple of guys working together. It's hard to know. Rolling Eyes

I sent him an e-mail again, but this time in Korean. I finally received a non-automated reply back from him a week later today. I'm trying to see how far I can get.

My first e-mail to him (with no response) dates back to July!

Yes, three of my friends. He got them good jobs too.

However, I know John personally so it's not fair to base him off my (good) experience with him. This was when he first became a recruiter so it is possible that he's changed. I haven't talked to him in a long while as well.
