If he is real? Come on you guys, you need to get over yourselves a bit.
The OP sounds much like I felt my first year in Korea (and even my 2nd and on up to my 4th)
When I was shafted by my boss, I was like him, unsure of what to do, unsure
who to believe, unsure about anything and everything.
I hope he is able to make things work with the labor office, because his boss
is not going to do anything for him. |

He is real some waygug-in. His story is like most stories on here however: a partial version fueled by his own frustrations and anger (btw, this is normal!).
I too hope he comes out of this with a positive result. |

Second indication this is a fake post. A lawyer represents a client. Why in the world would the lawyer tell their client to do their work? |
A fake post? Are you saying I am lieing?
First, whether you believe me or not, I got kicked out of my apartment. How do I know that? Well to start I'm not there anymore, because my boss came to my apartment and told me to leave.
And second, I called Bong-Soo, and that is what he told me. I asked him for advice, and that is what he said. I am not sure if I am misunderstanding your post or what. But since I don't have a place now its PC bang's for internet, and thats pretty much it. |

Well, considering you are fired, kicked out of your apartment, and in a shoe box asking a lawyer who tells you to do the legwork, you think you can make it there within a 9 hour span of time where they are in operation?
How lazy are you? |
Not reason to be an a-hole man, I appreciate all the help you have given me and I mean it, but its not necessary at all. It's not fun carrying around all your bags and traveling around Korea, let alone walking around your city. Try getting on a bus with all of your crap, and if you don't have the money for cabs everywhere, then good luck. |

Well, we haven't heard back from the OP. koreatimes, do you really think it was fake?
I think it was real. And I bet that either immigration or the labor board convinced the OP to smooth things over with his boss (read: bend over and take it big time) |
LOL I have no home and am carrying around all my stuff, trying to go to immigration alone took me like 3/4 of the day. Geez, if I don't post up on here with constant updates than I was lieing the whole time? |

Hey, how was your visit to the Labour Board and Immigration? Did you manage to have that job interview you mentioned? Well done if you're still in Korea and hanging in there. The majority of us sympathise with you and care!
Keep us posted. |

Alright, let me first say that this all IS NOT fake. Exaggerated, maybe, and the only reason I say so is because I was beyond PO'ed after Friday at all that unfolded. But intentioanall exaggerated? No. Looking back on the post I can tell you that everything I said happened, I left out some dumb things I said, but I tried to paint the picture the best I could.
I suppose to me the simple realization that we come across the ocean and leave our countries and friend behind (because we want to, but still) to be puppets for money-sucking hakwon directors, and yet they give us no consideration of any kind. That alone as enough of a reason to be mad about this, as he told me on Friday to "go america." How can I exaggerate that?
Anyway, went to immigration yesterday. My recruiter called me while I was waiting in line and told me that my director had canceled my visa. I asked her what to do, and she said because he canceled it, I could apply for a D10. This sounded way too easy, I was under the impression that if he canceled my visa than I am screwed, and I still sort of feel partial to that way of thinking. Anyway, I filled out the "change status of sojourn" form, and paid a butt load of won, and that was it. He didn't ask me any questions, just gave me a visa receipt and told me I could pick up my new ARC card in a month. I asked the receipt lady if I could find a job now, and she said yes, but I don't know if she understood me.
So no I am even more confused than before. Either Korean immigration just doesn't care and I walked in there and got a D10 (can now find a new job) no questions asked.
Or, I...
1. applied for the wrong visa, somehow got accepted, and am double screwed.
2. haven't been accepted yet, but think I have because I have no idea what I'm talking about.
3. I did get the visa, but I was supposed to go to the labor board first, meaning I screwed myself anyay.
4. Something else that isn't good.
What do you guys think? It sort of felt like as long as the guy behind the desk got my won, that he didn't care at all and would process just about anything I gave him.
Am I good to go now? It sort of blows me away if I am, my director told me if he canceled my visa I would have to leave Korea right away and couldn't find a job here again.
What's your take, at this point I don't even know, but than again, I never really did.
Kinda sucks everyone thinks I as lying. I can tell you that I'm not, and that if you read this and gave me advice, I DO appreciate it, and any words I type on this forum can not express that enough. You took time to help out a random dude who you don't even know, some of you a lot of it. So thanks, and all the best. |

What does the visa receipt say? It sounds like you got a D-10 but you were unclear in your post whether or not you actually got one. |

Thats why I am sort of sketched, I don't know. I don't see D-10 written anywhere on there, but thats what I asked for. He made me fill out a form, and on it there was a "6 month plan for seeking employment", so that is about the only thing that seemed like it fit.
I wrote D10 on the form, and told them that, and they gave me a receipt that just has basic info on it, and a new visa/arc number at the top.
What does a D10 receipt look like? |

The visa only recently became available to the average Joe. Probably because the actual work visas are tougher to get now, so immigration threw us a bone. I'm not surprised that your ex-boss thought you would have to leave, since I doubt he even knows about the D-10.
You wouldn't get an ARC card if you were simply on a tourist visa or something, so yes, it would seem like you got the D-10 and can at least not have to worry about fleeing the country over the cancelled work visa. |

Glad you didnt get kicked out.
You still didn't answer why Bong-soo didn't take your case. Did you decide not to hire him? Because he will be a big help when you go after your boss for wrongful termination. |

The nasty trolling in this thread reminds me why I am loathe to bother post here any more these days.
The bitterness and spite is toxic. Some nasty, poor spirited people. Heck people is too much a compliment for most of em.
Good luck OP, you'll have a new job and apt set up within a month or less time than that seeing as you are in country.
Just don't mention much about the previous nightmare in your resume. |

You just did.
Listen to what ppl have been telling you from the start in this thread. Drop the drama, and get stuff done.
You can do it. Others have.
Good luck. |

So, it's not the end of the world if you're on an E2 and you lose your job. No need to worry. Just to go immigration to get a D-10 visa, which allows you to look for another job.
Someone needs to put that as a sticky because I get the feeling this isn't the last time someone finds himself or herself in this situation and wastes a week stressing about it.
