Anyone know anything about the JES Island in Gangnam? The woman I interviewed with was really nice but I was wondering if anyone here has actually heard anything about this school. |

Thanks. I found that thread already but it doesn't really have any information except one guy saying "abort." I was hoping for something more detailed, if anyone has any experience or has heard something about this school. |

Not an "abort" necessarily...but make sure that if they promise to pay your rent and deduct pension...make sure they're actually paying both of them or you're in for a surprise later. |

I had a lot of problems with this school this last year working at the Dogok branch.
In terms of the teaching and office environment it is mediocre. The management is unorganized and they don't have any sort of efficiency in the office. There is very little space to work outside of your classroom and only one computer for 11 foreign teachers who are all expected to submit lesson plans and reports every week.
The main issue was with money, we were frequently paid late and our pension was not fully deposited for the year. As well the owner did not even put money into the pension account until 6 months into the year. At the end he missed one payment but still took out the money from our pay cheques every month. As well there were many teachers who had to fight to get their severance pay which arrived 2 weeks late in my case. The owner constantly lied to the teachers and was very evasive when we tried to contact him ourselves.
This was my second year teaching and I made the mistake of not looking into this school enough before I started. Don't make the same mistake! There are much better places to work. |

Jes Island Jamsil has recently closed because of financial difficultys due to poor management of the financial side of the branch.
Both branches are owned by the same person.
They have continually not paid on time and now some of the employees are having to fight to get their severance pay..
Do not work here!! |

If you sign we these guys, do so at your own risk.
The hagwon business in gangnam is competitive and shrinking.
I wouldn't feel comfortable signing, knowing what I know... |
