I have a very interesting problem and hope someone is good-hearted out there that can help me out.
I'm going into the Epik program in a rural town and am leaving at the end of February. I'm wanting to bring my two small birds (cockatiels)! There are problems with this, basically the airlines are the problem. No American-based airline will allow birds in the passenger area, they must be shipped in cargo. Unless the ground is under 45 degrees, which it is! So no birds can be in a plane in winter (or hot summer either). Shoot. However, Asiana WILL let birds in the cabin area, but only one pet per ticket holder. I have two birds.
I'd like to see if I can find someone going to Korea around the time I'm going. I'll be going a few days earlier than necessary, for the birds' quarantine purposes and I am willing to pay the hostel/food costs for someone to fly a little earlier than needed as well, if necessary.
What I plan to do is fly to whatever major airport you are leaving from, or perhaps fly to a airport you are going to as well, so I can give you one of the birds. Funnily enough, I can travel a USA airline with birds as long as the flight is in the USA. I'll need to arrange with you lots of details beforehand and am willing to pay any costs you have of course. It's cheaper than me buying a extra plane ticket back to the USA to get my 2nd bird or something!
I'm planning a very long-term stay in Korea otherwise I wouldn't be asking this. |

Two Cockatiels (they are the ones that generally have orange little round cheeks, yellow head, grey body with white wings), their names are Malena and Baby. Malena is 8, Baby is 13ish (He was a rescue, his age isn't definite).
Baby's a bit of a stupid name but he's had it for years so why change it, lol. Malena I've had since she was 8 months old and she's a beautiful albino.
Hokie21, thanks for the judgement of my mental status, very helpful. I'm not sure if I'm really the crazy one for loving my pets so much that I want to keep them with me long term. I'm rather thinking that you may be a heartless one if you give up your pets so easily. Easy to judge someone you don't know over the internet, isn't it?

One of my birds may whistle a bit, the other will chirp for a few seconds here and there but generally not at night when their cage cover is on. They don't mind travel and love to do so in the car at least. They are good birds, and I've trained em well. One is actually potty trained!
And thanks to Merrilee, looks like my problem may be solved. Hopefully future posts of mine won't cause such vitriol. I feel sorry for some people here now and hope one they will feel the same towards a pet of theirs. |

| OP - I just wanted to say that I think it is admirable the lengths you are willing to take to keep you "family" together. I will be leaving Korea soon and taking my rabbit with me, so I know how stressful the planning of it all is. I wish you and your pets all the best of luck on your trip over here. |
