Ok, so you are saying i can go from a 90 day visa waver stamp to a f6 visa in korea at korean immigration?

It has been done before (more times than I can count) but there are some on this thread saying (unless I misread them) that they couldn't go from a tourist stamp or a tourist visa to a family class visa. It is news to me but I would never argue with someone's personal experience if that is in fact the case and their experience.

Ive been to the British embassy and also spoken to Korean Immigration. If on a 90 day visa waiver or a tourist visa you can NOT transfer to a F6 visa in Korea. You must apply in your home country or a third country e.g Japan.

Just for the record this is what they say on 01/02/2012

Did you pay for the embassy to have your marriage recorded in the UK? If so you can order copies of your wedding cert. from the General Register Office in the UK. That should be sufficient proof.

Modernseoul: I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter if you get married in the UK or in Korea as far as immigration is concerned.Married legally is married legally, no matter where the forms are signed.

Great, I thought so but thought I would check as the cost of getting married in the UK to a lot higher than in Korea.

Going back to a previous question is the financial capability proof always needed and what amount of required?

Thanks again for all and any help and advice.

Welcome to the world of international marriage. It doesn't change for the better any time later either. Until one of you changes citizenship you will always be dealing with the bureaucracy.

That isn't what I did, but I just had a look at the embassy site. It looks like they have changed things since I got married in Korea - at that time the embassy took care of the paperwork for the GRO and I just ordered a certificate online later. I guess there is no quicker way - sorry to hear it is going to take so long.

I got married after the changes and transferred from E1 to F6 with only the Korean marriage certificate and a letter from the UK embassy saying I was getting married.

I have no idea if I just got lucky or if immigration take the embassy 'I am going to get married in the future' document.
