Hey

Me and my fiance met in undergrad and I want to experience her culture for some as of yet undetermined length of time.

I'm wondering whether to apply for an E2 visa and then switch over to an F2 when I get there or start with an F2 right off the bat.

Opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Unless she is your wife you will be on an E2. They don't give fiance visas in Korea.

off the bat? You can work outside of English teaching

better service at banks
you can hold two or more jobs without the permission of immigration
you can open a business

OR

let the school you work for own your visa
when your visa is finished, you must leave the country

And by the way, you would qualify for an F6 visa now. F2 visas you test/qualify for, outside of marriage.

Remember you need all of these documents, some of which maybe difficult to acquire:

" Passport
* Application for Visa Issuance or Application for Recognition of Visa Issuance
* Documents that prove the family relations (marriage certificate, a copy of family register, documents verifying the marital relations)
* Documents that prove the financial capability - Normally between $10,000 and $30,000.
* Reference of a spouse with Korean nationality
*Fee $80

I'm in a similar situation, and the financial capability is the issue. Many people say get an F5 visa, but this is a big issue.

An apartment in your name, even if it's rental with a lump-sum deposit or monthly rent agreement, used to be accepted instead of the financial statement. Then again, I went in with both in 2008 and had to show neither.

And make sure your rental allows you to use it as your real address. Some office apartments only rent to those who illegally play along with this. If you do not have a rwal address together listed at the local office, then no F visa.
