I've tried to stay in Hongdae a few times and have found the pickings to be quite slim, and rather expensive when I did find something that was passably nice. If I were you, I'd check out Sinchon instead. It's one subway stop away and there are loads of decent (and some not so decent) love motels as soon as you step out of the subway. The closer to the main street you are, the nicer they'll be. |

Itaewon is the worst locations to be looking IMHO.
Are you looking for luxury or value? If luxury, go to the Jelly Hotel near Yeoksam. If value, anything near Sincheon station. |

I've only stayed in love motels outside of Seoul. How much are they in Seoul, on average per night? |

Depends on the area of course, and which room you choose, but generally between 50,000-100,000.
Of course, some of the higher end love motels have gone completely mad and offer whole suites with pool tables and 6-person Jacuzzi; the Mate Hotel has an insane two-story suite with private swimming pool that goes for 600,000 or so. |

Wow, how many people can it sleep? And where is it?
So, you can get something for around 50,000? That's fair. |

Doro Hotel in Itaewon is pretty nice. It isn't cheap though (88,000 for the cheapest room). They do let you make reservations, which you should do because it fills up very quickly, especially on the weekends. |

Are there any korean websites that list them or allow you to make reservations. I'm looking for value only.. don't care how crappy.. but arrive late and don't want to be worried about walking around looking for a love motel.
Thanks! |

Hi . The site you are looking for is: www.hotel365.co.kr .
The other site : www.motel365.co.kr is a real estate site.
When you become a member of the site you are able to get
discounts at it's member love motels.(1~2 man won ).
Plus other perks : later check-out time , better room and maybe free
drinks or breakfast.
Also if you pay in cash you can usually get the room for
5,000 ~ 10,000 won cheaper. |

Both Sinchon and Hongdae have good love motels, they range from 40,000 to 80,000.
In Sinchon, walk from Mcdonalds toward Outback Steakhouse/Ewha University Station ... keep walking until you come up on a small street on the left. There are a lot of motels on that street, all lined up next to each other. I think the street is next to the parking lot/batting cage, or maybe before it.

And all love motels are cheaper when NOT booking ahead of time. Booking ahead through websites cost about 20% more. |

The above info is good. I would add that in the case you cant/dont want to join a Korean website (and perhaps pay more for booking a motel through a 3rd party website)..assuming you can read Korean enough to do so, just search for motels in the area that you want on naver or daum.
This should bring up a side map with a bunch of letters..a...b...c...etc. Not always, but at least in many occasions those motels will have their own website/or cafe...listing their room rates, or at the very least a contact number to call. I traveled all over the country for hiking various peaks over the years and have always been able to reserve rooms (even in the busiest areas of Seoul) |

Most the cheap Itaewon love motels are seedy and scary, well except for DOH not cheap.
So more details like price range, quality, after what (drinks), you or others, etc.
I like the Sangji, so so priced at 40k on weekends. Not on the main Itaewon drag but close and I like the area. Things are clean and neatish. Building is a bit old, walls are thinnish (do not get me started on the couple that went on for about 10 hours). Hot water system is mysterious from hot to cold. But I like the area.

I really need to find some better places. |

The better ones in Sinchon are caddy-corner from Mcdonalds. My favorite ones in Seoul actually. Just be careful if you go in on Friday and Saturday too late, they do get filled up. |

I really haven't used them for 3 or 4 years. But I remember paying under 60,000 a night in Seoul meant a dirty scmmy room. Prob more now. It used to be under 40,000 rule for other cities in Korea. Prices have prob gone up. I use a cheap hotel booking website now. But don't go up oo often because of the expense. |
