Hey, having a problem with the computer here. I can pop in a vcd and get sound, but no picture. I've gone and downloaded new Real1 players, microsoft windows players, etc, but the same problem still happens.
Any computer people out there know what I can do to get the picture back? Some stuff got erased off the computer, and I think I might have lost an important link.
Can you help?

You put dvd in the title of the thread. WHat happens when you attempt to play one of those?
Have you played vcds on this machine before?
A list of specs might be a good idea. |

You probably lost your codecs.
Try downloading a program like powerdvd or windvd. They include all the codecs and then you should have np with the video part.
Also you might have been trying to watch a divx or xvid...if so you need those codecs as well. |

Ok, the DVD's work, and I went online and downloaded a new WinDVD program, but it wouldn't read the VCD's either.
I think they are copied or downloaded off the net. Anyway...second ideas anyone? |

Is that so? How come... where's the lowdown on this? How come it isn't picked up by Search and Destroy or Adaware then?
This isn't Kazaa we're talking about. Real Player is industry standard so it seems strange they would pack it full of spyware and shoot themselves in the foot. Willing to believe it though if you have a link... |

| Download DIVX to use as your Media player. When you do that, you will also receive all the updated Codecs. |

I don't use Realplayer or Realmedia. Koreans got one thing right when they mass adopted WMV as their streaming/compressed video of choice. WMV9 is light years ahead of any other streaming media in terms of quality and compression.
I've personally found Realplayer to be persistent in taking over my media preferences and generally instable and a pain in the arse. However, feel free to continue using if you are used to it. :D
Anyway. Where was it. Oh yes. Codecs.
I recommend the Kazaa Lite Codec pack for all your codec needs. I was anti-codec pack for quite some time, but this is now a standard installation application for new computers I spec out.
