Hello,
I have a bachelors degree and I am hoping to attend teacher's college in Canada in September. Is it possible/ realistic to go to Korea to teach for a few months??

Any input is appreciated Smile

There are short term roles at Summer Camps which might suit you, generally for between 2-4months. I think it's a C4 visa (but not 100% sure)

The main downside can be location, as they are often based in a remote location and you can't get away from the site without your own transport or taxi.

I've heard mixed reports of camps in respect of working conditions and package, all I know is that often return flights are not included.

Good luck.

Technically you can teach for as long or short as you want.

You would obviously have to break contract. Just give your employer 30 days notice.

Im in the same boat but I have more time than you. If I return i will be staying for 6-8 months.

So you plan on signing a contract with the intention of breaking it? That brings up some definite moral/ethical issues, and is just selfish really. Why not go somewhere that offers short-term contracts and avoid causing your employer the extra hassle?

Just another reason for hagwon owners to continue regarding the teachers they hire with disdain.

Dont judge.

Its actually saving them money as they wouldnt have to pay severance and return airfare. I dont see that big of a deal of staying 6+ months if you give a 30 day notice.

Maybe if the US economy wasnt in shambles from inept politicians and corrupt big business owners I wouldnt have to come to Korea to make decent money.

Bottom line is I gotta get / save money. Everything else is secondary.

I hope you don't get a job. And if you do, I hope your boss's attitude matches yours.

You've made it plenty clear that you don't give a crap about teaching. You're exactly the kind of candidate that gives the rest of us a bad name.

Regardless of how well you teach, ditching your kids mid-year without warning isn't cool.

for the OP -- i believe you can find summer camp positions that are about 3 months. but even for a short term job, you would have to jump through all the same hoops as a job with a 1 year contract -- CRC, Apostille, etc.

no, OP is all right in what he is doing. The trick is finding the highest paying hagwon he can and then pulling a runner so that they don't try to deduct flight money from your last salary. As any hagwon owner would say, "It is just business."

It is like the chicken and the egg argument. What came first native teacher pulling runners and breaking contracts, or hagwon owners not paying us on time or at all and treating us like we are animals?

It is like they buy a shiny new north american and expect all their monetary problems and enrollment issues to be solved by them, even though their narcissistic and mental behavior is the reason that their business is failing. Would you trust any of your kids in a room alone with some of the hagwon owners you have seen?

Guessed you missed the 10,000 odd posts by people who gave notice and didn't get paid for their last month or so of work and were unable to stick around to fight for it.

This ain't home.

Truth be told, short term employment won't cover anything and you will get hooked for the costs of your airfare as well. Savings = $0 and you get a bad taste in your mouth to go with it.

If you want short term work, go to Mexico. The savings will be about the same after you take away the travel expenses.

China is an option for a 6 month contract. I leave early next week for one.
