hmmm... sounds like you're caught between a rock and hard place.
Look into customising your privacy settings; confirm the friend request but give them limited access to your profile.
Or simply tell your boss you don't mix your work life with your personal life. |

Add but don't let them see your updates or new pictures.
@itistime: if the boss gets your email, they can find you on FB. or they can find you from a mutual friend.
You can choose to ignore but people take internet "friendships" to mean much more than we do back home.
Good luck +1 |

Throw off the shackles of superficiality. Just add and let your boss see the real you. |

Two possibilites I think.
1- You are not some idiot who posts crap on his FB because he thinks it is somehow not applicable to real life.
If that is the case, you can add your employer to your list of FB friends and have very little to worry about.
2- You are some idiot who does post crap and idiocy all over his FB thinking it is private.
If that is the case, under no circumstances should you add your boss to FB.
Up to you really. |

For me... many. I don't set out to mix personal and work relationships, but I often stay working at places for a pretty long time. After so many years together, I find the possibility of becoming close increases. |

I would venture to guess that you are one in a million.
^not being snide or sarcastic. You're surely not surprised at
individuals being oblivious to internet privacy and the ramifications
of their lacking? |

I'd be willing to bet that case 2 is upwards of 75% of internet users. |

Count me in with these opinions. I'm friends with people of all age groups, many from conservative religious backgrounds, and many from a professional environment. I don't find that strange, but a lot of younger facebookers seem to "You're friends with your parents?!?!?!?!" Like that is somehow shocking and abnormal.
What is everyone hiding? There's nothing wrong with being photographed with a group of people and a few beers on the table as long as everyone doesn't look puke drunk and is acting a fool.
Look at the positives, your boss can see that you maintain stable and professional relationships with a wide variety of people and enjoy the talking to your family.
While I understand that photos can be misinterpreted and the culture of facebook seems to be one of no common sense and juvenile delinquency, if you are a stand-up person, one photo of you make a crazy face with your beer in your hand won't ruin you. Just say the truth- It was a birthday party on a weekend of a good friend. Had quite a few drinks. You think a Korean person won't understand that? |

Many people like to use not-in-the-earshot-of-children language on facebook, and others like to post news articles, opinion pieces, and blogs of things that they're interested or care about that may be disagreeable to certain others. For example, if your boss is a hardcore evangelical, but you like to discuss religious abuses with your atheist college friends, you just might be making a mistake by adding your boss to facebook. Similarly, if you happen to be homosexual and comfortable with your friends and family knowing, you might not want to share that with a rigidly conservative boss. Privacy settings and lists can help to work around those issues, but are still a bit of a hassle. |
