|
|
The laptop I want to buy is the ASUS Transformer Prime. It's more than 1.8 million won in Korea (auction.co.kr) and a little under $800 in the US (amazon.com). I'd expected to pay more for it in Korea, but it's over twice as expensive.
What do you (whomever may be reading this) think of having my parents buy it in the US and mailing it to me? My concerns:
- What are the odds of it getting damaged?
- Would the warranty be valid in Korea?
- Would I be able to view Korean sites and type in Korean?
Most importantly:
- How can I avoid Customs fees? Mark it a "used gift" or something?
Thanks! |

Just did a quick search for you.
http://shopping.naver.com/search/all_search.nhn?query=ASUS+Transformer+Prime&cat_id=
Saw one for 900,000 won.
It should be fine, but dont know if the seller is willing to ship it Korea. Maybe get family to buy it and then have them ship it over.
ASUS probably has an international warranty.
Korean sites shouldnt be a problem and just downlowd the program to type in Korean.
Custom fees will be luck of the draw, but gift might work. (not sure) |

$800 USD, + shipping + customs
the warranty may not be a global warranty
it may very well get damaged
viewing and using korean isn't an issue. |

Unfortunately, the 900,000 won is 32 GB (I want the 64 GB one), and it's not including the keyboard dock. The 64 GB model + keyboard dock is much more expensive, and again, especially when compared to US prices. Appreciate the help, though!
How much is the Customs fee on electronics? Does anyone know? I'm willing to bite that bullet if it's not too much. |

I got hit hard by customs the last time I shipped clothing from the US. The total price was under 300,000k and I got hit with 70,000!
Hopefully, its cheaper with electronics! |

If you do, let me know; if I don't get my parents to mail it to me, I might ask you to get one for me too (I'd compensate you for your trouble, of course; it'd be a business arrangement, not a [free] favor). |

this is the 32gb, but it has the keyboard dock. 822,000 won. |
I've ordered from this site before, and although it's a korean website, the products usually ship from hong kong... which means you get hit with customs fees |

| The best thing to do it have someone order it for you that lives in the States. Have them open up the box and repackage it in a plain brown box so it doesn't look new. Wrap the box up in wrapping paper and mark it as a '"gift" on the customs form. You won't get hit with any tax. It has worked for me several times. |
