I think that would be a relative pronoun.
"I don't know what you want to be in the future."
I think that is the indirect question (embedded?). |

It's a noun clause (where a dependent clause acts as a noun in a sentence)
Just as you can say "We talked about the weather" you can also say "We talked about what we wanted to be in the future". |

An indirect question is simply the reporting of a question to another person, and often requires (or required at the time it was asked) an answer.
Indirect question: He asked what time you would like to meet him.
It can also be used to make the question more polite:
"I was wondering if you could tell me how old you are."
As such, an indirect question can be considered a special type of noun clause, as the question is acting as a noun in the examples above.
However, in the example you gave, the sentence merely described the topic that was discussed ("what we wanted to be in the future"), and it is not explicit that it was framed as a question/answer exchange.
If the sentence had said "He asked me what I wanted to be in the future", then that is an indirect question. |

An indirect or reported question refers to when someone tells someone else what was said, using a reporting verb e.g. He asked me what I wanted to be.
Normally about is followed by a noun as in
'we talked about the weather.' so when it is followed by a phrase such as
we talked about what we wanted to be' it would normally be referred to as a noun clause or an embedded question as YTMND said, not a reported or indirect question |
