Can anybody give me info on the actual procedure and the rules that govern it?
This is for a friend and as I have never transferred my E-2 visa (only had a contract renewed a no. of times and then gone home to come back for a new job) I have no idea.
He wants out of his hagwon. His contract ends the middle of May but he thinks he will be booted before then because his workplace is losing money faster than you can say idiot management. Regardless of whether he's allowed to finish up on May 15th or is given marching orders for April, how does he transfer his visa?
Ideally he wants to be able to complete his job on May 15 to claim all his entitlements. He wants to line up a job for July so he can go home to Chicago to visit his very sick grandparents and support his family for a month or so.
Can he line up a job for July in May, leave Korea and then come back in for his new job or does he have to commence work within a month of transferring his E-2 visa? He's confused and I am too.
I think if he can do that it's great because hagwons just kill your chances of taking a vacation at home and if you're not careful you will lose your loved ones back at home if they're older and never get the chance to see them before they go. It's not worth it for 99 percent of hagwons and the pay they give to not say goodbye to your loved ones. |

He can get a D-10 (looking for work "bridge" visa). Regardless of whether he quits/gets fired or finishes his contract, he may be able to get it. (as long as he applies before his visa is up).
Then it's just a matter of waiting to get the new ARC for the D-10 visa, after which he can leave the country, come back (on the same D-10 visa), and find a new job and change to another E-2. |
