|

Is it still possible to get a china visa with less than 6 months on arc card (I am Canadian). Has anyone been able to do this in the last 2 months. I give this time frame because Zenith travel told me:
Hello,
Thank you for your mail.
However it's been recently changed by China Embassy and now it's no longer possible to get the Chinese visa if you have less than 6 months on my ARC card.
Thank you.
Apparently as of Dec 18 , 2011 it is not possible. Can anyone confirm? |

|

Since I don't have an ARC (here on a tourist visa), I can only get a single entry visa to China according to my travel agent. I am going to be entering China on June 8 to start a Trans-Mongolian railway trip. But, I have a layover in China on May 26 on my way to Hong Kong. My concern is that they will stamp/use my visa on May 26 and then when I try to enter on June 8 the visa will no longer be valid. I know when you have layovers in China you can just get a transit visa but I'm afraid if I have that single entry visa in my passport then they will just stamp it. Has anyone done this before or does anyone have any advice for me?? |

I am planning on doing the Tran Siberian too after traveling SE Asia.
I don't think I will be able to get a Chinese visa from here so I am thinking of getting it in Bangkok which looks easier.
Shagski have you booked anything for your trip yet? |

Nah, this has something that's been coming up for several years. I heard the same when applying for a Chinese visa in September 2008 and have seen it mentioned on this and other boards several times since then. I had something like 4 and a bit months left on my ARC and was told the same thing about a recent rule change that meant you needed 6 months or more of remaining validity on your ARC to get a Chinese visa and "it's not our fault, it's the Chinese embassy's rule."
In my case, I was travelling to China with my wife, who's Korean and to whom the ARC issue obviously didn't apply. We just told the travel agent that they could either (a) find a way to sort out the problem or (b) lose our custom for 2 flight and hotel bookings as well as the visa processing fee. They chose (a).
In the end, IIRC, they asked me to also provide a certificate of employment from my employer to support the application, which I did and the visa came back without too much further trouble.
I realise my solution probably isn't one you can use, however I do still suspect that this 6 month ARC rule is not something that you can't get around.
I would suggest (1) try another travel agent (isn't Zenith supposed to have recently been in trouble for ripping off expat customers??) and (2) if you get the "sorry, 6 month ARC rule" answer, insist that you know of other people who still managed to get the visa if they provided proof of employment in Korea or other documents. |

I'm planning to do the same train journey early next year, but I'll have been in China within the last two years of that so I should be okay
I think you can get around it by getting the visa processed in your home country. Alternatively (I'm pretty sure) it's possible to get a Chinese visa in Hong Kong. |

You can get your Chinese visa in a day in Hong Kong! |

I know it's a while back and things may have changed but I was able to get a Chinese visa with less than a month left on my ARC back in August 2010. A travel agent sorted it out. |
