Just read this:

Sleep Deprivation Can Make You Stupid
Researchers have found that a lack of sleep diminishes your attention and concentration, thereby affecting your problem solving abilities. Without adequate rest, you cannot learn well. It also keeps you from consolidating memories, so you cannot remember what you learned from day to day. |
Say it aint so. So why do some people in Korea don't sleep enough? I have also heard people say that students should be studying and not sleeping. |

Yawn... You misspelled ain't, and you used the word "don't" when you should have used the word "not". Maybe, you got a lot of sleep, but you didn't study enough. I'm no grammar expert, but do we really need threads like yours? |

The science is correct, and students in Korea do need more sleep (and rest in general) - would anyone really argue otherwise? You'd have to be mental to do so. |

Because he was a natural short sleeper versus being a natural long sleeper like Einstein, who needed 10 hours of sleep.
BTW, Edison slept a lot more than 3 hours a day when you factor in all his "naps." |

Some Koreans have this belief that people need only six hours of sleep or less. I remember talking to a Korean girl who was surprised by the idea of sleeping for 8 hours or so. When I asked my students, they said when they didn't sleep a lot, they slept in class. While that girl might be fine on six hours, it's not true for others. People, in general, in North America and Korea need more sleep, but sleep deprivation could be worse here. I don't really know. It certainly is for the teens. |

There is no need for most threads here. This is a general dicussion forum, and when I read the artical I thought it had some greater bearing on living in South Korea.
You have made 2 posts, which shows your interest. The first one clearly questioning if the thread is really needed, added with spelling and grammar pointers (well noted), and then your contribution as follows:

And thanks, this is wanted I really wanted to dicuss here. Your experience with your interactions in South Korea, and the relationship with the lack of sleep and learning.
Some people can get by with less sleep, and others need more. What is enough for me might not be always the same for others. Children and teens do need more sleep than adults, and with the way the Korean education system works, one would think that having good sleep patterns would help students to learn.
I would doubt that making mistakes on threads of this nature, whether they be grammatical or otherwise, has any relationship on how a person has studied. Now if I were to question whether or not a thread of this nature is really needed, and then make a seconded post, then maybe I would reconsider my level of intelligence. If you read something and it has no interest to you, just move on. But you didn't, and that is my point.
Anyway, I have always enjoyed your posts. Enjoy your day. |

This study confirms the obvious. Students who are overtired in class, students who don't get enough sleep on a regular schedule, learn far less than they would if they had adequate sleep.
It doesn't have to be some daily minimum, enough on a regular cycle of several days may suffice, and it can include naps.
A high percentage of Korean children would learn more if they got more sleep. Since sleep takes time, they would have to reduce the amount of waking hours spent on some other activity. |

(I can't tell if this was a sarcastic quip...)
do they? The kids in my school certainly aren't any brighter, on average, than kids back home in the Great White North. |
