I've been to all of the stadiums you mentioned, except Changwon. The new team in Changwon won't begin play until next year (2013 season). I've also been to the Suwon stadium back when the Unicorns were still playing there.
Unfortunately, the three you haven't been to yet are also easily the three worst stadiums in the league.
The stadium in Gwangju is by far the worst. It's small, there's only one enterance (long lines!), the concourses are too small and easily crowded, there aren't enough bathrooms, and the place just generally looks like it's falling apart. The good news is that a new stadium is under construction in Gwangju, slated to open for the 2014 season.
The stadiums in Daejeon and Daegu are remarkably similar, so much so that they must have been designed and built by the same firm at around the same time. Both are old, small, and uninteresting. The seats in Daejeon seemed smaller (less legroom) to me, but that may just be subjective, I didn't measure or anything. Deajeon has a nice view of a mountain behind the outfield, but that's just about the only good thing I can say about either stadium. Plans are underway to build a new stadium in Daegu, but construction has not yet begun. Nothing on the horizion yet for a new stadium in Daejeon, but they could definitely use one too.
The others you've already visited...
I think Incheon is the nicest, and not surprising since it's the newest.
Jamsil is light years ahead of Daejeon, Daegu, and Gwangju but it's also starting to show it's age.
Sajik in Busan is possibly the most fun, and the Lotte fan support has a lot to do with it.
Mokdong isn't that bad. It's older and not very big, but they replaced all of the seats last year and remodeled some of the other areas of the stadium (new bathrooms, etc). They also have New York Hotdogs, which as far as I'm aware makes it the only stadium in the league where you can get an American style hot dog. Incheon used to have them a few years ago, but they seem to have disappeared.
There's also the new dome stadium under construction in Seoul which seems to be taking forever. I live nearby and pass by it regularly. Construction started 3 years ago and it doesn't seem like they're working too quickly on it, still a lot of work left to be done. Latest reports say it will open for the 2014 season. It's also still unclear to me which team will move there. I had originally seen news reports that said it would be Doosan, but wikipedia now claims it will be Nexen. Either way I'm excited about it eventually opening. It will be really nice to be able to walk to a ball game.
Speaking of baseball, opening day is now less than 2 weeks away. Tickets for most of the games are on sale already (Samsung-LG in Daegu goes on sale Saturday). There are now less than 3000 tickets left in Incheon, and only about 5000 left for the game in Jamsil. If you're planning on going now is the time to buy as the season openers usually sell out.

I'm sure there are plenty of other places to find this information, both on this site and elsewhere. |

Great post Nick. I've been to most of the stadiums, except where Nexen plays. Gwangju's stadium is very old and small. You can sit very close to the action though, which is nice. I use to live in Gwangju so I've seen many Kia games, the seats are very small no matter how big you are.
Munhak stadium in Incheon is definitely the best stadium in Korea. It's modern with good facilities, restaurants, BBQ area, and even play areas for kids.
Korean baseball is such a great time. Great atmosphere and tickets are cheap. The good news is that many new stadiums are in the works. Gwangju, Dajeon, and Daegu all badly need new stadiums.
Baseball is becoming more and more popular over here.
I'll be sure to catch 10-12 weekend games again this season.
Fried chicken, beer and Korean baseball=great times. |
