Here it is...

http://news.khan.co.kr/kh_news/khan_art_view.html?artid=201203151036041&code=940301

Those arrested included two Korean-American lawyers and one Korean-American hagwon English teacher who distributed cannabis, cocaine, and ecstacy.

It's somewhat interesting that it clearly points out that these guys were Korean-Americans, which I can't recall seeing much in the Korean media in the past. Usually they are simply refered to as 'foreigners" or "Americans".

The obligatory quote from the police at the end says that drug crimes are increasing among "white collar" foreigners and that the police will continue to crack down.

2 ounces of pot and cocaine...a rather paltry sum. Certainly not worth making national news.

To put things in perspective:

Again: I think gyopos in Korea are using illicit substances way more than 23 year-old FOB EFLers.

Gyoppos or anyone of Korean heritage living abroad is pretty much referred to as a Korean when they do something positive and as a foreigner when they do something negative.
Unfortunately or fortunately (depending on how you see it) this has led to changes with the Ministry of Education now requiring all foreign teachers regardless of Visa type to submit documents to them (background check and copy of degree).

Sarcasm completely aside, when did you first discover this? I mean the numbers alone should tell the story. This has been going on since the mid 90's when the first generations of American born kyopos were returning on summer vacations and signing up for easy entrance exams to the top schools in Korea, just so the administrations could have some real English speaking Koreans attend their schools...

I may be wrong, but this was the scuttlebutt in the 90's. Somehow I don't think all that much has changed.
