no one seemed to mention shinhan. i have always received excellent service from them. they have some pretty tough regulations in getting a credit card though for foreigners and their cards aren't the best.

Nonghyup may be a bad bank for various reasons, but if you go with them then absolutely insist on a visa card. I've got two accounts because the first I was set up with gave me a maestro card which is useless online, and they set me up with a second account rather than just give me a better card for my main account. It just means I have to transfer money (very easy to do between two NH accounts) when I want to book flights or whatever

I don't think I need a credit card. An atm card for me to withdraw money will do Smile

KEB is the only one with proper mac banking, so I'm going with them.

BTW, as far as the merger goes, KEB will remain an independent brand for the next five years, when the issue will come up for renegotiation. I think Hana would have to be absolutely insane to get rid of the KEB brand-KEB's union will have none of that (they're currently the highest paid bank AFAIK and Hana's got the worst compensation in the industry).

NH is terrible. If you care about identity theft, don't even think about it.
