I've been reading around here and it looks like you can only legally get another job by originally working at a ps and then getting your director and immi to sign off on also working at another ps... Is this true?

What about for hagwon workers? What could we do to get more cash coming in, legally?

Hakwon workers can do the same as well. However that is not the only way for E-2 workers to earn extra cash legally.

If you can get OT (I wouldn't take less than 20,000 per class for it) you can make some extra money.

Also if you work at a hakwon you can also work at a P.S (part time) or another hakwon or a company job (good money there usually).
Or arrange one on one lessons AT YOUR HAKWON...this IS legal (the director will usually take a cut). Either before or after your regular classes you (or the director) can find parents who are willing to pay more for their child to get one on one tuition from a foreigner. (I had a couple of classes like that at one hakwon I worked at.) However it MUST be at the hakwon.

Yeah, there's no overtime to be had at my hagwon, and I already teach privates for my hagwon, but they're during my work hours, so I don't get paid overtime >.>

What do you mean by "company job?"

Work (teach English) at a company. LG, Samsung...back in my first year in Korea I used to do that...it was a tobacco company. Work there in the morning and late evening and work at my hakwon afternoon/early evening. Then again that was over a decade ago and foreign native speakers were a lot rarer on the ground. You might find some of these jobs on job boards...but it seems that most companies prefer to hire through word of mouth these days.

You could also work for a P.S part-time legally (maybe in the morning before hakwon classes start).

However both of these do require your employer's permission and K-Immigration's as well.

What exactly constitutes hagwon's permission? Is there a form to fill out or do they just need to call immi and confirm they are giving permission?

Your director has to agree and sign...in my case it was simply an addendum (with his personal stamp) to the original contract. You then take that down to immigration who will call the director to confirm. Then they will make the decision as to whether or not you can. Some factors (including but not limited to) are these.

1. You can not make MORE money at this second job than your first. (might even have to be less).

2. You can not have MORE hours at this second job than your first. (might even have to be less)

3. Your personal history will play a part in this as well, Are there any Immi black marks (like overstay or fined for illegal work...even a "runner).

A lot of the time if everything checks out you can get the second job added to the back of your ARC...Note that it MUST be written on your card...the boss can not simply say "oh it's okay".
And even if your boss okays it the final decision is Immigration's...if they are feeling in a particularly foul mood that day they may just decide to deny permission regardless.
