Right-wing extremist Anders Breivik, who has admitted killing 77 people during a politically-motivated murder spree in Norway last summer, has been declared sane and fit to stand trial and will probably take the stand to say he wishes he had killed even more people.

He also regrets not getting a medal.

The man accused of killing dozens of people -- many of them teenagers -- in dual terror attacks in Norway gave what was described as a fascist salute in court today before saying he deserves a "medal of honor" for the 2011 massacre.

The families of the victims can rest assured that this man will spend the rest of his life in an upscale apartment featuring free, quality food and dependable healthcare.

They can also rest assured that their prisons have a lower quality of recidivism, 20% to the United States 52%, a lower crime rate of about 1/8th the percent of homicides per capita as the United States. Yes, there system sure is terrible.

For the record, I believe that American-style incarceration is a terrible form of justice for criminals who will reenter society during their lifetime. But I'm pretty sure this post is about Breivik and Norway...

You see, short of going 1984 on him, Norway isn't going to "rehabilitate" Breivik into abandoning his political views. Oh, and even if "rehabilitated", he will never be released anyway (if convicted). So I do think it's absurd to treat him the same way as a burglar who could be rehabilitated, taught a job skill, and reintegrated into society.

Yes, but I don't think that they should change their laws, or how they do things, just for one man. Clearly their system is fairly effective, and I think that to change from rehabilitation to retribution just because some prisoners can not be rehabilitated is impractical.
