Shovel Ready in San Fran: $205,075 to Translocate One Shrub from Path of Stimulus Project
Quote: |
The government spent at least $205,075 in 2010 to translocate a single bush in San Francisco that stood in the path of a $1.045-billion highway-renovation project that was partially funded by the economic stimulus legislation President Barack Obama signed in 2009. |
I actually don't believe this. Somebody please debunk this. |

I tried to find information about it, but all I could find was pretty much the same stuff, but it was all on blogs and message boards, so who knows. It doesn't sound real, but either way I wouldn't be too surprised. |

Near extinct or not - it cost them a hundred thousand dollars just to move it? Surprised they didn't just round it up to a million. What a ridiculous waste of money... I bet I could have found some professionals who would show up with a crane truck, dig it up, and transport it the same day all for just a couple grand... Not exactly a tall order.
This sort of ridiculous inefficiency is typical, and just shows how little the government cares about saving money. |

So spend $200k or let the plant go extinct? Is that the false dichotomy we're supposed to accept? |

well, I'm very happy the plant was saved but also question the cost.
what's interesting is how this information was released and who did the releasing. right wingers are often giddy with glee pointing the fingers at their finding of "waste" for environmental projects while untold billions go quietly in the night for their military fiascos.
in other words, just chalk it up to politics. sure, there may have been some corruption somewhere along the line but I'm sure it pales beside that which has not been exposed. |
