What happens, hypothetically? Do you spend in time jail. What exactly happens to you? Are you banned from Korea for good? For a period? Fined? Leave immediately? What what..

It will depend on the raeson for your deportation. Reasons and penalties vary. Smile

I'm interested in what happens too. I heard they don't even give you a chance to get your things- its straight to the airport and out on the next flight, with only what you're wearing at the time.
I wonder what they deport for. there's a lot of rumors going around, but no definite accounts ...apparently they kick you out for testing positive for HIV, punching someone, doing privates, sleeping with a married Korean, in fact any crime whatsover.

Happened to a guy I knew. Worked with him for 4 months. Forged his university diploma and a 'friend' ratted him out. Immigration came into the institute and took him straight to jail for a week, then straight on the plane.

I had two friends who were busted for doing privates. They were given an "exit order" and not deported. They had 2 weeks to pack up, sell their car etc. Guess it depends on how hard the Immigration dept is. This all happened at a timely 2 weeks before their contracts were finished... no severance... wonder who dobbed them in???

It varies by gravity of offense and zealousness of immigration office.

I have heard about those 2-week exit orders after getting busted for doing pvts.

I also saw a couple of people get busted and shipped out the next day with just what they could pack.
These people lost whatever they had in their korean bank account and had to pay a substantial fine.

Deportation will therefore vary.

i've heard of them doing searches and seizing any and all funds in your korean accounts.

In 1999, a teacher working at a hakwon in the same area as mine was busted for doing pvts.

They came to his school, had all his students names and the amounts paid to him.
They had checked with his bank here and knew how much he was sending home every month (down to the last won) and how much he had in his account here.

They told him he had 24 hours to pack and leave.
Fined him 1 million won and seized his Korean bank account.

He paid the fine (his school gave him his last pay (lucky dude)) and was on a plane the next morning.

I knew the guy for 2 years. We saw each other at the bar on week-ends.
That real enough for you Gollum?

Now, this is not the case for every immigration arrest but it does happen.
