|

It's been nearly two years since I taught in Korea. I know the E2 visa regulations are ever changing and can be a bit of a headache.
So I was wondering if anyone knows whether a Vunverable Sector Search for Canadians is still required?
Also, is it necessary to get the CBC from the RCMP? Or can we go to our local police station. The RCMP website says that fingerprints are necessary and can take up to 3 months for the CBC to be issued.
Don't really want to wait that long if I don't have too.
One more thing. I belive I have to take the cbc and the notorized copy of my degree to the Korean Embassy/Consulate to be authenticated. Is this correct?
I'm getting excited to come back!
Thanks guys!! |

Korean Government are legally not able to request the VCC. Does not mean the do not get it.
If you got a check that has it your are golden. But no requirement.
City checks are fine as long as they have a National Database check done.
Still your best bet on what to do is check the Korean Consulate for the area you live and apply from.
Have not check in a while but most have some Info. Some are vague, some are infomative. Hope you are in the Vancouver Consulate area.
Also, you are in Canada now, right? So go in a get a name check done at the RCMP. It can take from hours to a week or two to get done. |

Thanks Skippy,
I'm in Calgary. Do you know if fingerprinting is required then? Or can I just go into the police station and ask for the CBC by name and ID as long as it's a National Database search?
I remember I was able to do this back in the day, but may have changed now.
Thanks again. |

The Calgary one is pretty good for a name check! I did mine from Korea with them. It was accepted by the Vancouver Consulate.
The Internet is your friend...
http://www.calgarypolice.ca/faq.html#1
Plus read the Vancouver Korean Consulate info page for CRCs
http://can-vancouver.mofat.go.kr/english/am/can-vancouver/visa/criminal/index.jsp (E-2 link)
Still you might want to consider get two done. Get a name check and start a RCMP fingerprint check in the proccess. Plus since you are there in Canada, you have some even quick options to getting fingerprints with some services. |

Thanks guys,
I went to the Calgary city police yesterday. No finger prints or VSS. Just a name check. Hopefully it works out. When I asked the cop if it was a nation-wide database search he looked at me like I was an idiot and then he said, "of course it is". But I just wanted to be sure.
Will take 3 to 4 weeks to come in he said. |
