| However, it was not forgotten by the president of Korea, when a year later, he sent a letter to North Kyongsang Province police chief Kim Jong-won, promising him a shipment of mortars and 100 rounds of mortar bombs for the Dokdo coast guards so that the weapons could be used to "scare off" intruding Japanese ships. When issuing the orders, however, the provincial police chief changed the wording of the presidents orders from allowing the coast guards to "scare off" Japanese ships, to allowing them to "sink" Japanese ships. |
Wowzers. I really feel Japan should just cut their losses on this one. I mean, the Brits let Hong Kong go, Dokdo in comparion is a mere pebble on the beach. |

I do recall reading somewhere in some Korean research forum that even a few Korean researchers were blaming their own government, suggesting that after the war, the UN asked Korea to claim its lands. At that time, the government claimed the peninsula, Jeju, a few others, and that small rather sizable island between Busan and Fukouka (if you have taken the beetle, you have passed it about 2 hours in)
Basically, the UN asked Korea to claim its historical lands, and although the Korean government tried (and failed) to claim the island spoken of earlier, the government at that time laid no claim to Dokdo.
In short, based on this Korean researchers ideas, although Dokdo may have historically been Korean, the fact the Korean government did not claim it after the occupation left it legally to Japan (legally in the sense that it was taken illegally, but not claimed by Korea in the settlement), and this was the main theme of the forum...a gnashing of teeth over the governments failure to include Dokdo as its territory at that time. |

| Interesting. So the UN is one who can settle this issue once and for all? |

The difference is that people actually live on the Falklands. Seagulls live on dokdo.
But they're proud Korean seagulls and they desire to belong to their rightful nation. |
