My hagwon, an infamous Wonderland south of Seoul, has started preschool classes and diaper changes have become a part of the teaching duties.
This doesn't even deserve the 30 day notice the contract requires me to give. My boss says I won't get my apartment deposit if I quit instead of changing the poopy diapers. Will the labor board side with my boss or with me regarding the apartment deposit? What about a letter of release? |

Letter of release is up to them. If you give proper notice and just do more of the same for 30 days, then hopefully you can switch to a D10.
Personally, I would never walk into a kindy class or younger. I will visit 1st and 2nd graders one class each a week, no more. State these conditions upfront. And do a terrible job when teaching these younger classes if you don't want them.
If diaper changing is the only problem with the job, (only with Wonderland? Ok, we'll go with it), then I would see if there is a Korean office worker who could do it in exchange for English lessons or something to that effect.
If I had a job which I liked but one part was askew (or is that foul?) I would negotiate extra work in lieu of unwrapping presents. |

Ok, thanks for the reply. This hagwon is absolutely horrible, but this is the straw that breaks the camel's back. I'll probably forgo the LOR and go work in another country. Am I out of my apartment deposit too, or will the labor board back me up on it? |

Of course, it all depends on personal circumstances whether you can do it or not, but I would have quit on the spot if asked to do something like that. |

This depends on what you do. If you just get up and leave, then it will be harder to collect, but not impossible. If you give the proper notice, move out before it ends, then you could have a basis to collect the apartment deposit.
If you want to go to another country, how badly do you want to do this? You could try negotiating 50% or 75% of the apartment deposit. Don't walk in and ask the employer this though. Get on the employer's good side and then see what they will do as a parting offer. After you get what you can, pack up and leave. |

OP, it's rarely in the hagwon's interest for the foreign teacher to just walk out. So you have an inherent advantage here. Tell your boss under *no circumstances* will you change diapers, and then offer (kindly/benevolently) to stay for 30 days (or whatever your contract stipulates) in exchange for your deposit and whatever else he contractually owes you.
As long as you give proper notice and adhere to the terms of the contract, labor will certainly side with you--and again, empty threats aside, it's *generally* in the hagwon's interest to comply with labor (they don't want the bad rep or the possible lawsuit later).
I suppose you could ask for the deposit in advance, as a kind of security--since your boss already threatened to withhold it. He might complain, but I mean--he's still got your last paycheck as HIS security, so fair's fair, right? |

Ahahahaha. I thought that was just a legend. I'd get out of there asap. Cleaning the arse of a random Korean couples baby. It doesn't actually get too much lower than that. The children's parents probably have an online portal where they get together to laugh at the waygooks that change their baby's diapers for nothin. 'What an idiot. Does he/she have no dignity. Getting him/herself into debt so as to wipe our baby's arse. What an arsewipe'.
Some of you people need to go find some dignity. At least you're quitting Reggie, some respect is due to you if you do. For those of you willing to stay and put up with those conditions, remember that you are at least in part, an arsewipe for doing so. If I was to call you an arsewipe on the street out loud, you should accept it and just move on. I won't even begin with how you managed to get yourself stuck with an apartment deposit. Cut your losses, and accept that you have to come out of it a bit brown-handed.

That's the kind of thinking you have to embrace dude. Get out of there, and make a clean break so to speak. Wonder (poop) land has already tarnished your whole K-experience. It's your destiny to re-evaluate your life and find pastures new. Listen to you, Reggie.
I had to forgo an elite public school job to honor a contract at a shit-hole before (not as bad as that mind you!) and it was a mistake - big mistake. You move on, that's what you do, you get out of the poop. |

I don't think Wonderland can have students that young under their govt. license. There is a specific criterion and licensing for day care facilities, and day care teachers. You (obviously) also don't have the license to be a day care teacher.
So they probably are breaking the law on those areas. |

Tell them to wipe your arse.
Quit. see if you can get a D10, transfer, or resubmit your documents (talk to kimmi)
Report the school to the education board, these students sound way too young. |

Most Korean parents don't believe this nonsense about a dirty foreigner. They wouldn't be hiring us to teach their kids and have private lessons with them if they really thought that way.
Tone the hysteria down a notch and think rationally about this. |

Yah yah, we know, we know. Godforbid someone use 'humor' and exaggerate a little in an in-joke that everyone understands is exageration anyway. bejebus.
There is still no way in hell I beleive the op and that any parent is willing to let OR EXCPECT an esl teacher whom is unqualified in childcare to change their kid's nappies. Not really part of the job description eh? |

its wonderland, i tend to believe the op given the rep that place has.
question is why would anybody with an active brain cell choose to work at wonderland? they've had this rep for over a decade now
you are better off living on the street than working there |
