I'm thinking about signing up for classes (beginners) at GNUCR. Has anyone taken classes there and could give me some feedback?

Cheers!

Going back a bit so YMMV, but i took level 1B there a few years ago.

Pros: SNU teachers and certificates (I assume it's still a joint GNUCR-SNU program?) at pretty central location (Gangam-gu Office Stn). Good coverage of writing and grammar for a low-level class.

Cons: A little light on the speaking practice. Lots of English used by teacher. Consensus in our class was that the class moved too slowly due to teacher pandering to excessive amount of off-topic questions from one or two difficult students. Of course, this was one particular teacher and a lower level class, but students (who were themselves teachers) should know better than to hijack the flow with random "hey i heard this the other day, what does it mean" questions, and SNU teachers should have better control and stick to their lesson plan. /rant

Other: I got a 50% discount and don't really know what other classes go for so can't really comment on the value, but I had the impression it was reasonable even at full rates. Lower level classes were pretty much exclusively NETs, but various foreign business types and one of the girls from that TV show where foreign girls talk Korean at the higher levels. We had about 12 in our class.

There's a Mosque in Itaewon. They might be able to give you more information on GNUCR's Koran classes.

Gangnam-gu employee at the time. It was pretty early in the program so they might have been drumming up numbers, not sure what their discounts look like these days.
