Hi guys.
From what I've read, I am only supposed to have ONE original criminal background check with apostle stamp. I have that and am ready to send off...
Now my school is saying I need to bring with me another ORIGINAL criminal check with apostle stamp. They say a copy of the original is not acceptable. This is very costly and I haven't actually read anywhere that it is even necessary. Can anyone shed any light on this, is it a new immigration policy?

Maybe school is confused. They might be asking for a copy of the original for MOE. Sound strange. I bet the school mixed up the process somewhere.
Also what kind of school? Public or private. I think the public school process can be a bit more convoluted. |

No it's private. They said that the requirements are changing as of next month. Whereas now a copy of the CRB will suffice, they say that from next month you will need to bring with you a second original with apostle stamp.
Ever heard about any changes? |

My recruiter has told me the same thing. I've read on here that they are misinformed, and that you can simply go to immigration and get k-immi approved copies of your background check to be sent to the MOE.
I hope that copies will suffice. Getting ANOTHER original background check is redundant and more importantly, retarded. |

I have a copy of my criminal check that includes the apostle stamp and a letter from my notary here in the UK. Do you reckon it will be fine to just take this with me to South Korea or will that be problematic?
It is indeed completely retarded, then again it is South Korea, make of that what you will...

I'd ordered three CBCs from the FBI when I was applying to work here. One went to EPIK, the second to GEPIK, and the third was an extra in case I needed it (like, if my job went south and I needed another copy).
But I'm pretty sure I saw it discussed on here before that the MOE/POE doesn't have the authority to request an original CBC. Only immigration can request that, to the best of my knowlege.
But you can get the MOE/POE a copy from immigration for, I think it was 500 won. That's what I'd read in the other thread. |

This is correct. My MOE needed copies of my CBC and apostille, as well as my degree and apostille. They are due by the end of this month. I went to immigration and got copies from them, then handed it in (as well as a brand-spanking-new medical, which pissed me off because I hadn't been out of the country, and had handed that in when I'd gotten my contract in June in the first place. Fortunately, my boss paid for half of that, and went with me to immgration and the MOE office, to make it easier.) |

| Does anyone have an update on this as the moment? I've just received my apostilled documents and was about to start fishing for jobs.. I've now seen a couple of references to needing 2 original copies of both my criminal check and degree certificate, do I really have to go through the hassle of getting more copies?? |

| NYC gal - do you just walk in and ask an immi officer for the copies? did you need to wait or come back to pick up or was it an on the spot procedure? |

I think that you really need to reflect on your situation. You already know that a jobs can go bad and you might end up needing to leave Korea and get a new visa (thus requiring a new CRC and other apostled docs). You also know that even if you're accepted for a job, they might turn you down at the last minute and not give back your documents. You're spending a lot more on the plane ticket than another copy of your docs would cost. In order to avoid any more hassles in your life (you seem to be plagued by them) wouldn't it be good to take along, not just one extra copy but maybe TWO extra copies? You know.... just in case. Maybe? Otherwise you're really just setting yourself up for another series of problems. |

I had to wait about 20 minutes while they looked for it in boxes. |
