|
|
EDIT: I am listening to you...I am listening to your advice!!
I know that there are a ton of games that were made for SNES, but because of my age and working in various overseas locations; I missed out on that whole era of gaming.
I have recently aquired a system and am looking for recommendations for great games. I have played Zelda 4Swords on the GBA and it took me forever but I can also check out Ocarina or whatever the other one they made was.
I have a few games that I picked up with the system, including Yoshi's island, and three Mario games, one that has the original few and lost games etc.
I also have a wii and will never mod it just to have all those games free, I don't do that. I just am happy to have the old system in brand new condition in a brand new looking box with four Nintendo controllers still wrapped in plastic. It was an amazing find.
If you can throw a few game names that really stand out in your mind, please hit me.
Thanks

Depends upon what you're into, of course, but off the top of my head:
Star Fox
F-Zero
Super Mario Kart
Final Fantasy II & III
Secret of Mana
Contra III
The Legend of the Mystical Ninja
Rock 'n' Roll Racing
(Super) Castlevania IV
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time
(Super) Double Dragon
(Super) Metroid
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Actraiser*
* Don't get me started! |

That's a solid list. I never did sit down and try Actraiser, heh.
I spent most of my time on Super Mario Kart, Final Fantasy II, and Romance of the Three Kingdoms III myself. Super Mario World was actually a pretty good game as well. Street Fighter II was a respectable port from the arcade, though single player would get old fast. The first Simcity for SNES was also alright if you're into building cities and whatnot.
Funny thing about Super Mario Kart, I practiced and practiced in high school, thought I was awesome, then broke out the SNES in university at my dorm and my roommate pulverized me with DK. I was like "wuuuuuuuuut."
edit: What were the shooters back in the SNES days? Had they even really come of age in that era? |

THe best shooter was Contra 3 (or Super Probotector, as it was known in the UK) that Maserial mentioned. Alien 3 is not bad either.
The list above is pretty solid, but two absolute gems I would add are:
Pilotwings
Super Punch Out
Also the Donkey Kong Country series is pretty much the best platform game I've ever played.
And finally if you're into football, forget all this Fifa 12, Pro- evolution etc bollox, the greatest ever footie game is International Superstar Soccer Deluxe , I wasted years of my life playing 2 or 4 player World cup tournaments on that one. |

What kind of shooter are talking about? If you mean first-person shooters, the Super Nintendo offers little, but if you're referring to a scrolling shooter, then you have games such as Axelay, Super R-Type, Gradius III, Darius Twin, etc. |

Super Smash Bros.
Beware - it is as fun but also as addictive as heck. |

Great game, though it was for the Nintendo 64. |

Some of my favourite games ever are Super Metroid, Mario Kart and the first two Donkey Kong Country games. They really bring me back to my childhood!
The Mario games are all pretty good too, but when I went back and tried Street Fighter 2 again it just wasn't much fun

I had that game for many years before I found out DK and Bowser are actually the fastest, but because of their bad handling and acceleration you have to be pretty good to hit decent speeds with them. God I love that game. |

Thanks for the recommendations.
I found a used store. Also, another friend gave me his system and four games so now I have two systems in excellent condition, w/box. I'm a happy kid.
Here is a list of games I got yesterday, I want to fill in the blanks so I'll go back and compare and then start searching. I'm headed to Japan for a couple of years, so I want to get a Japanese system as well - just for fun IF they're even available there. Japanese games would be fun to play, so I'm having one of the systems fixed so their cartridges will fit. I might have to buy an adapter for that...but another thing I realized is that I will have to get myself a game genie so I can have the cheat codes and lots of power and lives. hehe.
Love this 16 bit stuff...
The games I currently own
Streetfighter II (Guess I need to find Streetfighter III for SNES?)
Sim City
Contra III (Awesome)
Yoshi's World
Super Mario World
Super Mario Kart
Super Mario All Stars
NBA live 95
Madden 96
Riddeck Boxing
Prince of Persia (My favorite game on this list besides Yoshi's world and Contra III)
Keep in mind that I haven't even begun to master the buttons for kicks, punches, leaps etc. Just getting started. I think s | |
