No offense, but this is a dumb thread.

Korean Bureau of Statistics could help out with a sample size beyond the realm of the anecdote.

That said, I wonder if the roughly 50:50 distribution has always been like that through human evolution? I could imagine that a 3:1 ratio in favour of females would work as well, in fact having that many egg carriers seems to work nicely e.g. for lions (and the females do all the work, too!).

Just wondering...

Ah, yesterday at COEX I saw a Western family with 4 boys and Mom was 6-7 months pregnant already. I was wondering if they just keep at it until they have a girl?

I seem to recall that the "normal" rate of boys:girls among live births in any given population is something like 1.5:1 By the time the generation reaches a certain age (20's? 30's? something like that...) the distribution is more close to 1:1.

Among my friends mostly people have boys. Friends with multiples often have two children of the same gender in a row. It's been handy because my 3yo son has a bunch of other 3yo boys with whom to hang out and be generally rowdy, and I can chat with other moms about raising our sons together. I'll be having a girl in July; I'm wondering if/how it will be any different.

Wow, that's not even close. And given that it's easily googled I don't even know why you'd come up with such a number.

First, 1.5:1 means essentially 3 boys born for every 2 girls. Ok. Now, according to your next statement, that the population evens out in the 20's or 30's mathematically necessitates 1/3 of boys to DIE by their 20's or 30's. Does that seem reasonable to you? Why do I care what wrong numbers you spout? I don't. I just can't understand why people can't take a half second and think, hmm...1/3 of all boys dying by their 30's seems a bit steep, maybe that's not an accurate statistic. Oh, and it turns out it isn't.

I am going to have a girl, which I am excited about. I tried to work out the gender of the child before we found using all family history. I come from a family with a lot of boys, my dad has only brothers I have an older brother and sister. So I thought it might be a boy but I should have guessed as my mum only has sisters and my wife has five sisters and one brother.
